Toilet Training

posted 25th Jun
Ok girls, My little man is 2 and 5 months and I really want him to be toilet trained before the new baby comes in October.
Anyone got any things that worked really well?
How old were your boys when they were toilet trained?
I just don't know the best way to tackle it!!
All coments and tips are welcome.

I have a 2 and 1month old and he does great with the potty training some days and other days all he wants is a diaper! It gets so frustrating! I am so tired of spending money on diapers! My mom actually really got him started by letting him pee outside. Since it has been nice out, he wears undies out side and pees outside. He does very well and he has slowly started to do the same thing inside. I always heard boys were harder to potty train, but I don't have a girl so I am not sure. Hopefully he will be ready and it will be easy!!! Good luck!

I tried everything under the sun and she never responded to any of it. One day out of the blue she just started and never wore pull ups again. My best friend has three boys and she would let them pick out a potty and then decorate it with stickers. She said it got them interested.

If they show interest and a want to go to the potty then get rid of the diapers cold turkey. You will be washing a LOT of dirty underwear thefirst week butif theyare ready then they will get the hang of it. If they dont show ANY signs of being ready or able then you just have to wait it out. One bit of advice is dont tell them to hold it any longer then the amount of time it would take them to get to the bathroom. If you have to drop everything and head that way then do it.

My 1st was 2 when I had him trained the FIRST time. As soon as his brother was born, he regressed & went back to diapers. They are 26 months apart. He went right back to diapers & didn't even want to talk about underwear. The pediatrician said it was completely normal, so I am not even going to attempt to potty train before the next baby comes. Changing 2 kids in diapers isn't too terribly bad. you get in a rhythm pretty quick. It was harder to try & clean up & change wet pants while taking care of a newborn.

we bought my daughter a potty that sang and stuff but she neve rliked it she wanted to go to the bathroom just like we do on the toilet we do so the potty was def a waste of money at first I would set her on the toilet about every hour and sometimes she would go and sometimes she wouldnt and we finally got to the point where she was wearing underwear all day unless we were going somewhere for a long period of time (I stay home with her) but I wasnt sure about all night so she always wore a diaper to bed well one night I just spaced it and accidently put her to bed with her underwear on she woke me up at about 3 am crying so I go in there and she said she had to go potty and she couldnt go in her underwear so we never put a diaper on her again cuz she just knew she wasnt supposed to potty in her underwear but she thought it was ok with a pull up or diaper on so pull ups didnt work for her either I guess every child is diff

Quoting J&LsMommy:“ I tried everything under the sun and she never responded to any of it. One day out of the blue she just ... [snip!] ... has three boys and she would let them pick out a potty and then decorate it with stickers. She said it got them interested.”

I also tried everything under the sun with my daughter and nothing worked UNTIL we were looking through the Sears catalogue one day and she saw a Disney Princess potty and said she wanted it (she already had a plain one that you put ontop of the regular toilet seat) I asked her if I got it would she promise to go potty on it and of course she said yes, so I thought what the heck, I've tried everything else. Lo and behold - IT WORKED!!! Woohoo!

my son was the same age as yours now when i potty trained him and it took one weekend. i took him to the store with me and let him pick out his underwear so it's something he wanted and buy plenty. i took him every hour the first day and limited drinks and no diapers. when he peed on himself he would get mad cuz he was wet and didnt like it so by day 2 he was doind better. then for the night time i put the undies on with the plastic ones over them. no drinks after 7 30 and he used the bathroom at 9 and i set my alarm for 2 and took him half asleep to the bathroom and sat him down. he would cry but i told him to hurry up and go and he can go back to bed so he'd go and i'd pick him up and go to bed. another weekend that took. it worked for my daughter too
