mattress question

posted 25th Jun
I am not quite sure of this, but I was wondering how the mattress is suppose to fit the crib. I have a mattress that was given to me, I put it in the crib last night, but the sides of the mattress aren't flush with the sides of the crib. Is this how it's suppose to be?? I justdon't know if thisis too safe. I don't want mybabies legsor arms getting caught. Please if anyone can help meon this I would greatly appreciate it, so thatI have time to find a new mattress before my lil man gets here! Thanksso much!!

I'm pretty sure it needs to be flush that way there are no accidents. Try googling the infant requirements or something...

Thanks so much for the feedback! I was a little too nervous about it anyway, so I was probably going to get a new one! I am for sure now, but at least I still have a lil time! Thanks guys!

I got this crib mattress information from here:

http://www.creative-baby-nursery-rooms.com/baby-crib-safety.html

An ill-fitting baby crib mattress can compromise baby crib safety. Baby's head can become entrapped between the side of the crib and the mattress resulting in suffocation. To prevent this ...
  • The baby crib mattress should be firm with squared corners.
  • The crib mattress should fit snugly (less than two finger-widths between mattress and crib sides.)
  • The baby crib mattress should measure at least 27 1/4inches by 57 5/8inches. Depth should be no more than 6 inches.
  • Remove all plastic covering. Never use plastic covering as a crib mattress protection. This poses a suffocation risk.
  • Consider an organic crib mattress for peace of mind.
Your mattress doesn't sound right. You should get a new one but make sure to get a refund on the old one. By law it should meet the above minimum measurements.

Thanks so much for this information Jessie bear! It really helps alot! Luckily I didn't have to spend any money on the mattress that I have b/c someone gave it to me! But I will be sure to get one according to the standards, so that I can insure the best safety for my baby boy! Thanks again this was a huge help!!
