Thoughts on cord blood

I was thinking about getting this done despite how expensive it is and put it on my registry so that people can put money towards the kit. The packet they sent me makes you feel like your baby would be screwed with out it. Then I hear other people telling me its a hoax and doesn't really cure that many diseases and the whole idea is for them to want parents to feel bad and get it. Please let me know if there is site that I can read up on the cons because the ones i've come across are only promoting it. Has anyone done this or decided against it? Why?

i thought about it, but i dont think i can afford it. so i did think that maybe i would just donate it to the hosp that way someone can make use of it. if i dont use it then why not donate it? otherwise it is just waste, so why not?

My hospital does cord blood donations only. So it's free. And the cord blood is public not private. It's stored at Duke Medical Center and if any child w/ an illness matches Darwin's cord blood they're allowed to use it.
