Kind of a VERY "touchy" topic....

I'm going to warn you that people might start fights with this topic, especially since it's regarding Capitol Punishment, but I read an article on Yahoo! News regarding certain states banning the dealth penalty for adults who rape children, being they would have had to kill them in order for "Capitol Punishment" to happen.

What is your take on this?

While our constitutional rights state there needs to be two felonys (for many cases but definitely not all) in oder to constitute Capitol Punishment, I'm not sure how I feel on this one.

On one angel, I agree that raping a child should constitute the Death Penalty, while on the other hand, they didn't take a life, thus, this ruling was correct.

I'm not sure I should even be posting this but I was just looking for your opinions and why on this topic, being I just read the article.

Well, I don't believe in capitol punishment, period. At least the way they have it structured, I don't believe in it.

If you hurt a child in anyway (rape, abuse, ect). , you deserve to die. Period.

GAH. I would love to string the nasties up by their balls and shoot at them where it hurts the most. I can't handle that kinda crap. Castration, anyone?

I believe in Capital Punishment for this crime because they are doing something horrific to a child that the child will have to live with for the rest of their life but then on the other hand if they would have ruled for Capital Punishment for raping a child wouldthe rapistjust turn around and murder the child if they know they aregoing to be put to death anyway. Maybe the Supreme Courts did make the right decision if you look at it that way.

I'm not completely sure how I feel about it - you can look at it this way - we're killing someone for killing someone else, so how is that hypocritical? I have so many mixed emotions on this.

As long as it is misery, most jails are lax these days. Criminals live better then some law abiding citizens what with internet access, cable, phone and things...

I dont know about the death penalty, but life w/o parole, would/might be a better solution.

Oh, I agree, too, but according to the legal aspect of this, an adult would have had to kill a child in order to receive the death penalty.

They DID take a life though. That child WILL NEVER be the same. It changes everything. It affectsthe relationships withwith the child and his/herfamily, and any relationships the child will have after.
They deserve to die. They took a life. Maybe not directly, but indirectly, they did. Besides, maybe if the death sentence were on the table, pedifiles would be less likely to act on their sick urges.
