What age will you let your daughter start wearing makeup?

posted 25th Jun
The nail polish post made me think of this.

My daughter can wear makeup on special occasions (like if she was in a wedding or something) when she is younger, or if she is playing dress up. Other than that she will not be allowed to start wearing make up untill Jr. High, and even then it will only be light make up, like some blush and mascara if she wants. Then in high school she can start getting into the other stuff if she wants and I will help her learn to apply it so she dosent look like a hooker lol

I just cannot stand seeing 10 year olds walking around with full face make up on (not to mention the slutty clothes some of them wear)

If my duaghter hates me for it, oh well. Those were my rules growing up, and looking back I think they were very appropriate.

13 and even then it will only be mascara. At 15 or 16 she can start wearing more, there really is no reason young girls should wear so much.

I wasnt able to wear makeup on my own till I was 16 , one of many of my momsrules , but was able to wear it for school dances and important occasions .. I wont make it so harsh of an age for my girls but it will be the "teen" years before they go out all "dolled" up .....

i agree, I was eating at Chili's the other night and saw this little 11 yr old with her face plastered with makeup. In a way it was kind of gross. If/when I have a daughter, 14 will be the age for makeup.

Hehe this post made me laugh! Yesterday my mom and I were at the store and we saw this little girl who wasn't even in a training bra yet wearing more makeup than both of us combined!

I think I'll let Hailee wear some eyeliner (as long as she doesn't look l ike she's got black eyes! ) and lip gloss in Jr. High, and then maybe introduce other stuff later on. Eek, I can't even imagine my precious baby girl wearing makeup and short skirts and all of the things I wanted to do when I was 14.

I never even thought of this. My parents never told me when I could wear make-up until a certain age, but I didn't wear make up until Freshman year in High School.
I'm hoping my daughter won't wear make-up until she's at least in 8th grade.

I will say that the only exception I will make is if she has a bad acne problem. I was lucky not to, but my sister did and she was able to wear concealer in Jr. High becuase of it. That I would be OK becuase I know that is hard to deal with.

My mom never really told me an age. I think around 8th grade I started wearing eye makeup, mostly because I had blond eyelashes, and thought I looked goofy. She did tell me not to go to her for help/tips/advice on it though, because she's terrible at applying makeup! LOL She said to ask my aunt!

I toatally agree. My mother was old fashon and I was not really allowed to wear make up until 16. She gave in at 14.

well, I went to a Catholic grade school and we weren't allowed to wear make-up to school or we would get detention. So I didn't start wearing make-up until highschool. I think that is a good age. Little girls don't need it! They don't even get pimples to cover up at that age!

My mom never told me an age either, I started sneaking her makeup at around 9 years old lol. Like full on full faced makeup. But my mom was always the type that let us make our own mistakes, so she never said anything about it. I will not allow my daughter (if I have one) to have real makeup until she's a teenager. She can have dress up makeup when she's a little girl and then just some lip gloss and mascara around 11/12. When she's a teenager I will let her have more makeup but would prefer she didn't use foundation/base/

My husband says 40 when she is able to start dating!! Yeah right. My stepmom's rules was I was 14 and she picked the makeup and if she didn't like how I put it on then I had to wash it off and try again.. I have some years to think about that one myself.
