re: What age will you let your daughter start wearing makeup?

posted 25th Jun
It'll probably be junior high with lite makeup approved by me, like lip gloss and maybe a neutral shadow. Nothing spectacular. I was wearing foundation really early tho because I hit puberty in the FOURTH grade. Yep. I had zits all over my forehead during the fourth grade and it was so embarrassing. I also got told to start wearing a bra during our annual play day outside. Sheesh.

When it comes to things like shaving or covering up a blemish, I have no problem with her doing those things because I know how delicate a girl's self esteem can be. Don't we all?

luckily, my husband and I both agree on this   We were talking about it and he was under the impression that girls dont start liking makeup til they're in like 10th or 11th grade!
As nicely as I could I asked if he had lived under a rock his whole life.   So he thinks 16 is a good age, and since I see no harm in making her wait that long, I've agreed with him.

I think 13 when I was allowed to wear some makeup..but I had to buy it . My mom knew nothing about makeup so she couldn't teach me to apply it..I think I learned from magazines and later on from a friend.

What age will my daughter be allowed.. Probably 13 .. But makeup occasionally..she doesn't need lots of mascara, lipstick, etc .. In HS she can start wearing more makeup if she wants.

Quoting AndeeLee:“ What about shaving? I started around 5th grade or so. I really didn't need to, but other girls were doing ... [snip!] ... other girls were doing it, so I did too. My mom wasn't too happy. Neither was my dad when he realized I'd used his razor! LMAO”

I was scared to shave, I thought I'd cut myself. But by 4th grade the hair on my legs was starting to bother me so my mother showed me how to use the Nair. Then in 5th grade she got me my own razor and showed me how to do it. I was the first one of any of my friends allowed to shave my legs but I was one of the first to get that hairy too! And with my dark hair it was very noticeable.

I am really happy my mother used common sense and not just arbitrary age ranges to tell you when you are ready to do something. I remember feeling bad for my friend Stephanie in jr high because her parents wouldn't let her shave till she was 14 for no reason besides that's when HER mother started to do it.

I was about 13 wearing blush, lipgloss, and mascara. So, my daughter will probably be to.
Any mother who does this ^ is just asking for her daughter to have self esteem problems!

I agree! Its really sad that some mothers put their children through that and make them think that the only way they'll win is to be pretty. Ugh, I cant stand beauty pagents for children. They're ridiculous.

It's like, "hmm, what can I do to make me daughter feel bad about herself? Fake teeth, fake eyelashes, fake hair, fake nails, tons of makeup, and if she doesn't look freakishly unlike a child already lets parade her around in a bikini."
It makes me sick

My sister is in one called "Cinderella Pageant" and they're not allowed to wear makeup or flippers (the fake teeth) they aren't allowed to wear those glitzy dresses. They have to wear those ones with the poofy sleeves that look like baby dresses lol and the patent leather shoes that buckle. I was really opposed to her doing any pageant, but my mom showed me the website and the girls from the years before and it's actually a really nice alternative. The points for winning comes from the talent and interview competition. And then they have their evening gown dress competition or whatever. But no swim suit.My mom usually makes her outfits herself. My sister has won three titles and they help her out a lot. Everytime you win you get $5,000.00 towards college. I'm not for pageants at all, but there's definitely worse ones she could be in.
