Quoting Team Blue (16 more weeks):“ i wasn't saying anything about the guns at claires, I have personally NEVER had an experience at claires, ... [snip!] ... is wal-mart or a tatto parlor, I would rather take my child to wal-mart (I think 6 mo is a litle too little for gauged ears!)”
I'm 30, so that would be 17 years ago that I got my ears pierced.
The only reason I know a little bit about the Walmart here is because I used to work for the company and a very good friend of mine is the manager of their jewelry department. The Walmart in my area doesn't train for longer than a day, and they still use the non disposable guns. I don't think it's a waste of money if you have someone who you KNOW is sanitary and competent to pierce your child, I think it's better to "waste" the money rather than let someone who doesn't know what they are doing, has no station to wash their hands, has no rubber gloves get near my child's head with a pointed earring that is going to cause a hole which in turn could cause an infection. But that's just me, I'm not trying to tell anyone else what to do I'm simply stating why I won't take my children to places like that based on my personal experiences with them.
oh yeah, the 6 months with gauged ears made me giggle. I can just imagine my 13 month old withy a 4 gauge hole. She's gonna have to wait for that tho', they'll be pierced with the standard 14 gauge (same size as a piercing stud at other places).
