In that case, it sounds like more of a feminine first name to me. I don't mind Vernon, but I dislike "Vern".

It's a couple of things. The way it is spelled is confusing to me. "Ranye" would be pronounced "rahn-ye" not "rain". "Rayne" or "Raine" would make sense if you want it pronounced "rain". The other thing is that I think it is just too feminine for a boy. But hey- that is totally just my opinion. Like I said- you and his dad need to be happy and comfortable with it.
