re: Baby's hospital bag/diaper bag for later.

take as MUCH as you can from the hospital (diapers, alcohol wipes, ect) they offer most of it.

Plus, they have formula there, similac and infamil, you choose.

They have everything you need for baby besides a homecoming out fit, and fancy receiving blankies. Pack more for yourself... your husband/BF/buddy wont like toting aroung a heavy ass bag, TRUST me!

The hospital is prepared to take complete care of baby.

Our receiving blankets are the thin white ones they use over and over. At birth class the nurse said "please dont take those home." And they give your baby the bath and advise you not to, so you may or may not get samples, depends on if you stay or not.

They didnt have big fuzzy receiving blankets for my friend or the girl I was with before that. WTF? I want one.

Maybe I should switch to the other hospital out here?

I didn't say they didn't provide anything, just not a lot of the stuff other people are mentioning to me. Such as we don't get bottles, blankets, car seats, or outfits. They also may or may not give you samples of baby wash. Neither of my friends I went with got any.

They also asked we not take anything but the bulb, brush, pump, and leftover diapers from the pack they used. She got a paci and some keepsakes. That's it.

Besides, this is also my diaper bag I'm preparing, so I really want to know if it's fit for the hospital and the outside world.

LOL I noticed you said they dont' have big ass receiving blankets. Durrh. Nevermind on that one.

I do plan on taking a lot of that stuff with me that I can, but nothing they request I do not take, because simply I dont need it. I'm overstocked on newborn diapers and alcohol as it is. My brother's girlfriend went all out on supplies, you'd think I'm having more than one. I have enough newborn diapers to cover me and my last pregnant friend going after me.

Everyone I know got me one of those bath supply things. With no receipts.. yay.

So really I just want nose suckers.

And I will be carrying the diaper bag (single momma], which isnt too heavy, and will be staying with someone before I return home, so I'm iffy about leaving it behind til the last minute, though I could leave it at her house, since it's also my diaper bag.

I will be two hours away from home the first week.

I'm bringing a spare outfit, homecoming outfit, and one for the pictures. Then some for when I stay with a friend. lol. Those are packed in a seperate travel bag.

I haven't had my baby, so maybe I am over packing as well, but I also stuffed in a soother type of toy, one of those blanket teddy bear things. Also, nail clippers. Babies are born with long nails and the hospital won't clip them for you.

Like you, I packed almost everything. I figure that I might feel guilty knowing that I can buy/provide those things for my baby and maybe the girl behind me cannot but they ran out because I took everything. LoL!

I am glad I found this I have a 4 yr old and when he was born I was way over packed the hospital (only one for the whole county) gave me so much stuff! I almost forgot all that untill I started reading the posts. But now I kinda wonder if they are still doing that. The gave me sample formula, binky, bulb syringe, diapers, a bottle, even a little diaper bag. So I guess that I can probably just go with the min for the baby and pack stuff for my husband and me instead.
Oh and one more thing is with the and diapers, binky, formula, ect most hospitals provide is all factored in the billing anyway so don't feel to bad for taking them with you when you go.

LOL I have medicaid. They are stingy with the supplies, and the medicaid thing might be why.. It's annoying. Like if you use up the small amount of diapers they give you, then you are out. Totally out. Ugh. Luckily I can leave my diaper bag in the car and get stuff as needed. lol.

I guess it depends on how comfortable you are with what you take. I know I'm not going straight home, so I need more than others. I also know my hospital gets dickish and hoggy with their supplies, which doesn't seem to be the case with other hospitals apparently. =[
