posted 24th Jun
okay well my husband was going to sign me up and all that for my insurance today. he talked to someone last week and they told him yes all you need is your marriage lisence and you will be able to sign your wife up for deers and tricare and everything. then today he was talking to his srgt about it and he said he has to get a paper and bring it to me to sign then bring it back up there and then back to me before i can be enrolled in deers. three people so far that are in the military and have been for a while have told him tottaly different things. and i made a doctors apt for next monday cuz i thought i was going to have my new insurance and its with a new doctor and ive already missed my 6 month apt. so can someone tell me something to reasure me that im not going to have to wait even longer!!

When we got married my husband didnt need anything. He just added me into the Deers system and my tricare was transferred. It is possible that it was easier for me because I was already enrolled in Tricare under my father but Im not really sure. I would recommend that you check the tricare website just to be sure.

This is what i know... but hubby and I are active duty.. and I am in the process of separating..

Once you get married, and have a copy of the marriage certificate, you can be enrolled in deers. Once you enroll in deers, you are automatically eligible to sign up for Tricare. Tricare prime paperwork takes a little while... but once you're in deers, you can make appointments and see military providers. That's what I've understood. As long as you're in deers, your appointment should be covered.

once you have an id your in the deers system. You will need to call tricare and askto be put on tricare prime.. if your hubby is AD.Tricare prime is the one where everything is covered, with tricare standard, it's only covered up to a certian % of your bill. You can see the Dr. before your in the tricare system, just save all the papers and tricare will pay you back, but it could take awhile!

I had to have my birth certificate in addition to the marriage licence. It was lame, I had to order one from Alaska, pay 25 bucks and wait for it to come in because my mom didn't want to give up the copy she had. That was for me to enroll in DEERS and get a military ID. Once we had that, we could go sign up for tricare.

you can still go to your doctor appt and then have them send the claim to tricare i had to do that too.

Tri-care sucks, blows..hard. Be patient with them and stand up for yourself! If you're not sure about something or you receive a strange bill don't just let it go. Good luck

You have to be in the system. If you are command sponsored then you are in the system. You will need a ID card anyways so I would get one asap. He can enroll you in DEERS with just a marriage certificate. My hubby did and all my kids were enrolled with just a birth certificate. As soon as you are in DEERS you can be enrolled in Tricare. YOU dont have to do or sign anything.

Yeah you need all that for the ID card. I had to send hubby my birth certificate and social security card and a physical for him to get me put in the system so I could go get a ID card but he was just out of BMT and still in Tech School at the time so it mgiht have been different for us. THAT was a pain in the butt.

because if he enrolls me in deers and tricare today then this weekend when he comes down to visit we can go to the nearest place to get my id card. im just concernd about him not being able to enroll me in deers and tricare without having a military id.

Dont worry I was in both before I had a ID card. I probably wouldnt worry about it. It only take a mintue or two at each office to get it done so just wait till he comes down. DEERS and Tricare is usually done at the same time and if they want you to have a ID card then you can just go get one. It is all a same day process. Fill out a form here your in fill out a form there your in and they print your ID on the spot.

yea it would be that easy if i lived with my husband on base. but hes three hours away so its not that easy. thats why its such a big deal bc if they happen to say your wife has to have a military id for you to enroll her in deers and tricare then he has to come down here this weekend...go get my id....go back up there...enroll me in deers and tricare...come back down here to give me the info to give to my doctor...and by then i would have already missed my doctors apt.and would be a month behind in apts and i have already missed my glucose test.
