6 week old's growth...any concerns??

posted 24th Jun
Ok, so my son is just a little over 6 weeks old.

I took him to the dr yesterday because he has really severe colic and acid reflux and we put his tush on the scale, he was 13 lbs and 23 in long! He was born at 7lb14oz and 20 inch long. My cousin's son is 5 months old and 14.5 lbs and 24 in long..

So of course I have heard like CRAZY that i need to take him off breastmilk (which is stupid) or call a new peditriction because mine wasn't concerned. My family is like freaking out, saying hes going to be a monster, because neither my fiance or I are big people. He's 5'8 and muscular built, and I'm 5'1 and (was) 145 before i got preg.

Soo.. bascially. What I am asking, was how big are/were your kids at this age. Is it normal for him to be this big this quick. I just kinda think he's going through a spurt and will slow down.

My daughter is 6 weeks old today. She was 7lb 10oz at birth and as of last Monday she weighed 9lb 7oz. I imagine she's about 10lbs now.

My daughter was 13 lbs 5 oz at her 2 month check up. I breastfeed for 3 weeks and then gave up because she wasn't gaining any weight. She weighed 9 lbs 2 oz when she was born, 8 lbs 1 oz at 1 week, 8 lbs at 2 weeks, and so I started giving her formula. Babies grow at different rates. As long as your baby is healthy and gaining weight I don't think you should be concerned and you should definately keep breastfeeding if it's working for you.

He might be going through his growth spurt now and will slow down later. I don't think your pedi is nuts and if he was just putting on weight and not growing long then I think he would've said something.

I think that your son is totally fine. Babies (most) are chubby. A professional is going to know more than your family members. I wouldn't stress about it. And I definitely wouldn't stop breastfeeding.

I nursed my little one for 3 months and she stayed small. When I put her on formula she seriously porked out. I wouldn't worry about it. Breastmilk is so healthy for them unless the doctor feels that maybe his acid reflux and such is from an intolerance to it. They may be saying that so that they can have you put him on the forumla that is meant to help out when little ones have bad reflux and such.

I wouldn't stop BFing... most BF babies pack on the pounds early.

My son was 9 lbs 7 ozs at birth and weighed 14 lbs 10 ozs at his 2 month well baby. He is now 10 months and weighs well over 24 lbs.

He is my chubby little boobie baby!

Everyone constantly tries to get me to stop breastfeeding whihc totally drives me crazy. I think they are trying to get me to stop so that they don'e feel guilty for not doing it themselves. THere is a breastfeeding support group that i attend the first tuesday of every month and Ilove it. Sometimes it is the only encouragement that I get to continue. If you want information just let me know!
Lennon has gained nearly 6 pounds too so don't feel bad, fat babies are cuter anyways!
