Would love to breastfeed...but...

posted 24th Jun
I'm paranoid I won't produce any milk! Or at least not for a few days after she is born. Is that normal? What was the situation for you current moms? Did your milk take a few days to come in? If it did, was it hard to breastfeed b/c they were used to the bottle? I really want to breastfeed, and have had NO colostrum/leaking!

A lot of women's milk doesn't come in for a couple of days...that's why you have colostrum. Just let them drink that and wait. If you supplement, it can take longer for your milk to come in. Good luck  !

it takes a few days, before it comes in, the baby is getting colustrum (in very small amounts) and thats exactly what they're supposed to get. They dont need bottles at all. So dont worry, they arent being starved the first few days.

just because you're not leaking dosn't mean you don't have any colostrum!
I never really leaked while I was pregnant and my milk came in. yes, it does take a few days but that's normal. they just drink the colostrum until the milk comes in. I've been breastfeeding for 3 weeks and it's going great. my son has gained almost 2 lbs in the past 2 weeks so I know he's definitely getting enough milk.

your baby isn't even here yet. its normal to not leak before the baby is here. and colostrum is healthy for the baby. tr breast feeding and don't be worried youll do great! it took me a day if that for my milk... but for some women it takes a while

some women dont leak at all during pregnancy. After you give birth just continue to have your baby latch on and do not supplement with a bottle. Your baby will not starve! my baby was born friday and didnt have any milk until Sunday night around midnight, but he latched on and got colostrum for the first few days...even if you dont feel it coming out.

and if it turns out that your baby does need a bottle its not so bad. my milk supply just died after a month and i made nothing. it didnt even hurt when i dried up. but i know that formula can be just as good.

yup my milk finally came in 2-3days after she was born. wednesday, thrusday and friday night sucked but saterday night after my milk came in she started sleeping 5hours+ at a time at night.

I didnt give ehr a bottle and I didnt give her formula. The baby was kept in my room at the hospital so I kept her on the breast most of the time.

babies are not born hungry they are born wanting to suck.

same here, my son latched on great the first time I tried to feed him.   and I think it took me about 3 days for my milk to come in.

it took 5 days for my milk to come in. i didn't give any formula. it was no big deal. you just have to wait. the baby will be fine.

that's what I did, he was with me most of the time at the hospital, and if he was in the nursery for some reason, I told them to NOT give him a bottle. so they brought him to my room every 2 -3 hours to BF.

I had a really hard time with all that. My col. didn't come in at all, and my milk didnt' come in for at least 5-6 days. By then, the dr just told me to bottle feed, since they weren't even sure if my milk wasn't going to come in at all. But I'm a bad example, I'm sure you will do just fine.

Hey I seriously want to hear your story too! I'm a big "reality" fan, and who knows? Your reality could be mine as well! I like being informed all around

even if, for some reason, your milk doesn't come in... you can look for a group in your area that supports breast feeding and look into getting breast milk donated to you.

Wow! i didn't even think or consider something like that! That's crazy that there are actually support groups like that; that's wonderful.
