should i buy formula?

i want to breast feed, but should i be prepaired and buy formula just in case i can't? or should i wait to see what the hospital tells me to buy? i am on WIC, also, so maybe i should wait and see what they give me? i'm clueless here! HELP!!!!

I wouldn't.

I just signed up for a bunch of free sample things. So did my mom and sister. So even though I'm bfing we've still got some formula.

I wouldn't... just because it is so tough at first, it is hard not to give in to temptation and give a bottle.

But that is just me....

They will give you formula at the hospital. its not going to be a months worth but i got a couple days worth of ready to feed. then when Sophia was 5 days old i think i had to go to WIC and bring her with me and then they gave me checks. You could buy a can and if you dont end up needing it just take it back.

Do you know what formula WIC gives you?? if so just buy that brand so if you do have to formula feed baby will be on it already..

wait and see what formula wic offers plus you dont know if the baby might need a diff type of milk like lactose or nething like that

i don't know what WIC gives yet... i will just wait. that seems to be the way to go. if i need some, walmart is just down the street! LOL

If you are bfing WIC won't give you formula though. They're very Pro-boobie!

thats exactly what i was thinking.

I also signed up for free samples. So far, I think I've received something crazy like 5 cans of Similac powdered formula, 3 cans of Similac concentrate, and 2 cans of Nestle, plus my doctor gave me 1 can of Nestle. And on top of that, I breastfeed so I only use the formula for the 1 bottle I give him at night. It's crazy how many freebies you get if you sign up...

you should wait to see what kind of formula the hospital starts your baby on.
I'm BFing but for the first few days I gave him breast AND bottle , since my milk wasn't in yet. The hospital started Koen on Enfamil lipil with iron. I'm still Bfing but after we got home form the hospital I went and bought a big can of the Enfamil powder, just incase for some reason I needed to supplement.Try not to give him bottles so he dosn't get nipple confused. I'm lucky becuase he had no problems lacthing on, so my boobs didn't really hurt and I didn't have to give into giving him a bottle....

Just get some samples to have on hand. Enfamil will also send you some coupons for free formula. No sense in wasting your money if baby takes to BF. Good luck!

I would wait to see if your baby breastfeeds. I wasnt ever planning on buying formula but my daughter is small and has to be supplemented, plus I am not producing enough milk.

WIC gives out Nestle Goodstart formula (well here in NH anyways)
