Scared Im not prepared.

posted 23rd Jun
I am freaking out guys...
Im 33 weeks and 3 days.. and I feel like I don't have near what I need for my soon to be new baby boy.
I still have yet to get anything for my little man to sleep in..[IE crib, or bassinet.]
I do not have a car seat..
Im just freaking out..
Money is so tight right now..
I can barely afford anything.

Im so scared the hosipital will keep my baby... cause I don't have a carseat.. But even if for some miracle I get one.. what will my lil man sleep in?

My mind is racing..
I think its running away from me.

Second hand stores are the best when money is tight. You can find some really great deals. Yard sales are wonderful too. The only thing I wouldn't by there are bottle nipples and car seats.

pack and plays are a lot cheaper than a crib or bassinet and they are perfectly safe for the baby to sleep in! I know people who had a crib and their baby slept in the pack and play anyway.

Craigslist.org is great for things like this. They usually have things in good condition too.

I used a pack and play! Are you on medicaide or any state assistance? Sometimes they can help you. I know here if you don't have a car seat, the hospital will give you one (you have to be low income)

You can always find something for him to sleep in some where that isn't so expensive... yard sale, second hand store, your local church, craigslist.com or even freecycle.com (I think if not it is .org).

As for a car seat.... I would make sure you purchase that brand new. You don't need anyting fancy. Just something that he will be safe in. Price them in different stores, look for coupons or something.

Try not to stress too much... things will work out

i would say have a baby shower for sure! see if any aunts, uncles, cousins, friends have recently had babies that can give you hand me downs, second hand stores, garage sales.. they all are good ideas for low budget items.. and if you can apply for it WIC and medicaid and if you talk with the people at WIC they sometimes know of places churches or other groups that can donate cribs and such... walmart has pack and plays for 80 bux if you can afford that they don't NEED a crib.. there are plenty of things you can do so don't freak out cuz you gotta be strong and resourceful not overwhelmed... and hey if it all comes down to it and these solutions don't work for you do what mothers did before all these great inventions happened use lots of blankets and pillows in a dresser drawer! my aunt did that 40 yrs ago with her baby!

also call your hospital or birthing center and some not all but some donate car seats.. trust me they won't keep your baby they will help you with something before they keep your child ;)

Call the hospital I know the one where I live you can rent for free a car seat from the hospital. You should have to return it when you are done with it. My friend had to do that for a few months.

That's ridiculous. Parenthood means stepping up caring for your child, not waiting around for somebody else to do it.

OP- Have you called your hospital? Sometimes they donate car seats to people. Craig's list is a GREAT resource, as are garage sales, etc...You don't have to have anything fancy for a baby to sleep in, he or she will never know the difference. Even a Moses Basket would be OK. (go to babies R us and type Moses Basket in the search bar if you aren't sure)

Babies are expensive, but sometimes we make them more expensive than they need to be. All you reall need is:

Clothing (nothing fancy, can be done cheaply at garage sales, or maybe hand me downs)
diapers
Food (breast feeding is almost free, except for breast pads and nipple cream)
A car seat (you really need this new. but there are places to help you with this)
A place to sleep (nothing fancy)

The toys, strollers, all those extras can come in time. The only things that your baby is really going to care about is being loved, fed and kept safe.

Have you thought about what you can do to improve your life? Maybe a better job, or more education? Maybe even moving to a less expensive neighborhood?

WOW... I thought all the advice was great until the end... You have no idea what kind of job she has, the education or even the neighborhood she lives in. I'm sure you were trying to be helpful and all but my interpretation of your last few questions was you being rude. I may be wrong, but if I were the OP, your questions would definitely make me feel horrible. Especially since you don't know the situation at all.

If I were freaking out about not having anything or any money, I would be thinking about whether my job was what I needed or not. It wasn't meant to put her down or assume she wasn't doing her best. It was meant as encouragement because no matter how well we are doing we can always do better, rather than stressing out we can think about the things we CAN do, KWIM?
