No idea- what am I missing?
posted 23rd Jun
I hate not being prepared, and since this is my first baby I have no idea what I need/ don't need. I've tried to compile a list, based on what other people seem to say they used most/ needed most. Anything I don't need on it? Anything I really need that's not on it? I can't even BEGIN to make a shower registery because I don't know what i need!
List of Things:
stroller
crib
car seat(s)
baby swing
bouncy chair
glider
bassinet
pack n' play (for going to grandma's, etc)
sling
nursing pillow
swaddling/ burp cloths
sheets and blankets
nursery decor
diaper bag
baby bath
newborn diapers (for newborn tar-like poo)
cloth diapers (for later)
baby wipes
onesis
sleepers
cute "outing" outfits
pacifier
baby toys

Seems like you've got it all!
Oh vaseline? You put it on them so when the tar like poops come out it's easier to wipe off.
Also I use diaper rash cream for Maya, just precautionary so she doesn't get one.

holy cow! I thought I had a pretty good list, but I apparently missed a lot of things.
What are receiving blankets for? Are they like burp cloths?

I don't think a glider is necessary, and you forgot diaper bags, lanolin cream if your planning to BF, hand-sanitizer so your hands don't get all dried out from washing them constantly, nursing pads, a nursing bra. and BTW even if you don't nurse you can still get a boppy. They have more uses to them than just nursing. I absolutely love mine!! and when she was a NB and I would bathe her I had the johnson's washclothes with the soap already in them. Those were so much better for when she still had her belly button. and baby shirts.

Go to the Babies R Us website and check out their New Parents Checklist...it will have almost everything (and then some) that you need for a newborn. Then double check here in the Preparing For Baby forum to see about things that you might not really need, like the baby bath, changing table, carrier, etc.

I'm getting the glider for free, so I figured I'd throw it in.
Right on nursing bras and lanolin cream, I am planning to breastfeed. Diaper bag... right. Also good. Never thought of hand sanitizer, but that does make sense.
I'm updating the list as we speak.

I've tried Babies R Us and get instantly overwhelmed by the amount of selection. My biggest problem is that if presented with a lot of things- even in the "Preparing for Baby" section - I'm totally bogged down and feel like I'm going to fail at this new-mom thing because there is just so much stuff! I was thinking a list would make me feel organized and in control, lol.

I totally know what you mean. I obsessed over my list forever. I only registered/bought about 25% of the stuff off the reccommended list...its just too much! Babies grow so fast, there's really a lot of stuff they don't need. I have two links on here that are helpful...one is a post about Most Useless Thing you Got For Your Baby, and the other is Most USEFUL thing you got for your baby. I'll put them in here.

yup bc the baby goes so much and your hands get super dry if you wash them all the time after eaxh diaper change and it also helps for the diaper bag when your out and have to change the baby in a restroom you can just use the sanitizer instead of waiting in line to wash your hands

I do however recommend the swaddleme blankets. That is the only way I can get my daughter to sleep on her own b/c she was able to break out of the recieving blankets so easily.
