posted 23rd Jun
Hey.. i was thinking about doing a side job as a medical transcriptionist, working out of my house..
Have any of you heard of this, or do it.. or know what you have to do to get started?

I think you can go through a community college and take courses. I think though...I could be wrong. Check out out a local CC and see if you can find courses.

My aunt does this as a living and has for years.. Most you dont need any schooling, they train you. You could call around to the hospitals and see if they have any info on anyone hiring for it..

I do medical transcription from home. The job actually fell into my lap. I went to school to be a medical assistant, worked doing that for a couple years then decided I wanted to be home and the doctor I worked for offered me a job doing it so here I am. I love it. There are some technical schools that offer medical transcription programs though.

Thats what im worried about... i dont want to get involved in a scam.
So i guess the best thing to do is to go as the college or something?

I'm currently enrolled in the medical coding program at a community college. You can probably get a medical transcription certification at a community college. Also when you complete the certification program they will help you find a job. Or why don't you look up some medical transcription jobs and see what the qualifications are.

You dont HAVE to go to school but it would deffinately help. If you were to apply to a job and another person with the schooling, they would probably choose the one with the schooling.

i got my course for medical transcription from gatlin education. they do the program through your nearest community college. you can put in your zip and they tell you where it is offered nearest to you. wasn't a scam.

You dont NEED to go to school but I am sure that it would definitely help.

My MIL's best friend does this as her job and asked me ifI wanted to help her out. I pretty much taught myself to do it, but it was rough getting started, Im not going to lie! It was really hard without having any knowledge of all the terms and abbreviations and medications and whatnot. It can be done though! Its actually pretty neat now that I am doing it!
