Twins and Preterm Labor

posted 22nd Jun
Hi! I am expecting twins and supposedly with twins full term is considered 37 weeks compared to 40 weeks with single babies. For those moms who gave birth to twins how far did you go with your pregnancy? Was it before week 37 or past week 37 or close to 40???? I hear all different stories and I don't know what to prepare myself for. I know someone who gave birth to twins in 7th month and another person who gave birth at 40 weeks; which is a big difference. I just dont know what to prepare myself for.

Hi! I had my twins at 33 weeks. I had placenta previa though, and had to have an emergency c-section. What I do know is that 36-37 weeks is considered full-term for twins. I know a lot of people with twins and they have carried to about 36 weeks. My doctor said they do not let moms go past 38 weeks with twins. So....I guess it depends on your health and your doctor. If you have complications the birth of your babies may be sooner. The longer they stay in the better! Good Luck!!!!

My last pregnancy was twins. I actually started labor at 32 weeks and five times after that. I was given so many different meds to stop contractions and including bed rest. The last time I was going into labor. they decided to keep me in the hospital for two weeks strict bed rest. I was not even allowed to walk around the house for house work or walmart. I had to be in a wheel chair. They finally scheduled a csection because baby b (caleb) started to scoot down from baby a (gabe) and caleb was breech, so I had to have a cesection. I delivered them at 37 weeks. Gabe was 5lbs 3oz 19 inches long and Caleb was 5lbs and 1oz 18 1/2 inches long. Healthy little men! They came home with me instead of staying in NICU. Now they are big men! 16 month old boys that are 25 pounds waiting for their baby sister to be born any day now! Good luck!!

I delivered my boys at 33 weeks and 3 days. I was on complete bedrest for five weeks prior to delivery. Every doc is different but most won't let you go past 38 weeks. good luck

Hey, I had my twins at 34 weeks. They tried coming at 30 weeks though. It all started with a rash that spread all over my body and I coudlnt sleep for two days straight. All I did was itch and itch and itch. Finally, I decided to go to the hospital and found out I was in labor. They sent me off to a bigger city which had a better hospital. I sat in the hospital for 34 days. They gave me medicine to stop the contractions and the only time I could get out of my hospital bed was to go to the bathroom and bathe.
I ended up having to have a C section. And I had preclampsia. Kaine came out 5 pounds 8 oz and Kolsyn came out 4 pounds 1 oz. They had to stay in the nursery for two weeks and then got to come home!

Hi,I had my boys at 37 weeks and 5 days. I was induced too. My boys would have stayed in as long as the could have but I had a +3 protien the day I went into for a NST. You will do those if you get to 36 weeks and they make you go twice a week. Somedays the boys would behave and get out in an hour other days I was there for 5-6 hours. The boys were born healthy as could be: Karson 6.9lbs., 19-in-a-half inches long, Kaydin 6.4lbs and 20in long.No NICU, stayed in my room and went home with me.
