a couple questions...

posted 22nd Jun
you may or may not remember me, but i posted here a while ago asking of how to tell my mom i was pregnant. since then, i've told my mom(she was VERY supportive), went to the doctor quite a few times, had an ultrasound, and found out i was having a baby girl with the due date of july 14th, the day before my birthday. but, i wanted to get some opions on a few things.

1.) my boyfriend leaves this thursday for basic training for the national guard and his sister and mom want to throw me a "surprise" baby shower within the next few weeks. my boyfriend can't keep secrets well so he ended up telling me that they wanted to. should i tell them i don't want one? because i feel like i'm too young, for one, and two, i'm really late in my pregnancy. is it too late?

& 2.) my mom's friend gave me a bouncer and my boyfriend's sister gave me a swing. do you think they're too boy-ish for a little girl? my mom said she would rather have everything pink(first grandchild) but i don't want her to waste her money. so what do you think about these?

First of all, just because you are young doesn't mean you shouldn't have a baby shower  It will be an excellent opportunity for you to get everything that you need, so go for it!! Two, bouncers and swings are great for babies at any age. Three, your mom shouldn't really have a say it what SHE wants the baby's colors to be. This is YOUR child, so speak up. It is awesome that she is being supportive, but don't let her cross boundries.

Girl go ahead and have that babyshower. Doesn't matter how young or old a babyshower is always good. And I dont think it's too late....some people have them a fw months early some have them later its no big deal.

And good luck. You are very young, but that doesn't mean you will be a bad mother!

yeah, it's not like i think the baby will care what color her swing and bouncer is. lol. and yeah, i'll probably end up going through with the baby shower, but i may suggest that they hold it off until after the baby is born. would that be a good idea? right now we have just about everything anyway.

Even though you might be young a baby shower is a time to celebrate your baby coming into the world your age doesn't matter. Also the gifts you receive will be such a big help.

I dont see anything wrong with the swing or bouncer either and although your mom is helping you to raise your child you should let her know if you dont want EVERYTHING to be pink.
Good luck with everything!

The baby shower is a great idea! Free stuff for baby! Being as young as you are is all the more reason to have one! You can't afford to buy all that stuff! Besides, let his family "suprise" you and feel involved. Good luck, hun!

PS. Bouncers and swings really don't matter color-wise.

thank you. it's not as much that i don't want everything to be pink, i just find it a waste of money to go out and buy something new if we already have it, barely used. like, we could use the money later on for other things.

I just turned 17 when I had my baby shower. It's fun and it really helps out alot. You get alot of stuff you need for the baby and about the swing and bouncer color doesn't matter. I had a blue bouncer and a green swing for my daughter. Like someone said it's not your mom's choice what kind of colors your baby's stuff is. If she was going to buy another bouncer and swing that was pink ask her to buy a stroller or carseat with that money. Or something you need. I don't see the point in buying something you already have when the money can go towards something else.

that's another reason i want them to go ahead with it. i feel like my family and i have kind of tried to push his family away and this would be a great oppertunity to let them take some part in my pregnancy.

We dont have showers here at all over in the uk. I can understand what you mean about being young, i know we wouldnt have considered it when our first baby was born into the family cos it wasnt considered a positive thing to be having a baby as a teenager and nobody was celebrating a teen mum! But i think it is a really good idea to have one, i guess its more important than ever to have one exactly because you are young. Things will be tough and you should take all the kind gestures and help on offer.
