cosleeper / positioner?

posted 22nd Jun
ive been looking around for a good cosleeper lately, only since i plan on breastfeeding and this would more than likely come in handy! but i also plan on using a pack n play for the first little while and i would like to put a positioner in there just to ease my mind...but are there any cosleepers out there that can act as a positioner too?!! because what i see when i picture a cosleeper is a tiny little bed all in itself, and i just cant picture putting him in that...in the pack n play  soo any mommys who have any ideas please share!!

i know thats what people have been saying, but they are intended to actually prevent it..so they both kind of contradict each other..its like taking an extra step to prevent it can bite you in the ass..or it can really help   confusingg

This is exactly my story with Lily from birth;
I am breastfeeding. For the first few weeks, I had a lot of trouble getting her to latch on because my milk came so fast & I had had my mom give her a pumped bottle so I could sleep, so all she wanted was a bottle. I wound up finding positions to sit in and hold her & sleep that way.. I pretty much konked out any time she latched on.

AfterI got her to latch on, I don't ever give her a bottle now. For the first month and a half, she slept with me, nothing else. I learned to get her in a side-lying latch on position & fell asleep like that (I'm sure everyone knows not to do this because of the posibilities of what could happen). After that, I started putting her in a pack n play thing, but she couldn't sleep on her back, so I'd be up most of the night trying to get her to sleep. It was hard.

Now, I have this pink thing, and I wish I would have from the beginning - it's perfect. It's a vibrating bouncy seat... I just stick her in it, and she's on her back, and she's elevated. I think this is the best position for a sleeping baby because
1. They will spit up forward instead of having it come back into their throat and possibly inhaling it
2. they are elevated in case of congestion
3. They are on their back so no known tummy sleeping problems!!

I really just feed her, she always falls asleep when she's eating, sometimes I'll stick her in it and give her the pacifier and she'll eventually go to sleep after squirming and grunting lol. When she wakes up in the middle of the night for a feed, I prop my pillows up, lean down & get her, and change her diaper, then latch her on. Then I burp her, and stick her back in it.

This method works incredibly well for us!!!
But everyone, and every baby is different

Good luck!!

I put Lily on one once & left the room with her sleeping for five minutes. When I came back, she had squirmed down & her mouth was caught on part of it. I FLIPPED out.

Positioners have been identified as a SIDS risk mainly due to the risk of suffocation and overheating. Co-sleepers on the other hand have been identified as a factor in reducing SIDS risk because baby is near you.

Positioners are supposed to keep baby on the back but once baby is wiggling around they don't really work.

Check out these links for more info about co-sleepers

Consider using an apnea monitor for peace of mind.
