NOPE! There is no way to spoil a newborn by holding it too much. They are used to being inside of your body, 24/7 and they crave that comfort of your touch and your presence. It is very good for their development at this stage to have as much human contact as possible! Tell your hubby he's crazy.

They are actually used to being "held" 24/7 inside of you so even if you were to only put her down 6hrs a day and hold her for the other 18 hours, that would still be 25% less time than she is used to. And I doubt you hold her for 18 hrs a day =)

I don't think so, but I don't know when you need to stop... I held Lily all the time for the first few weeks, then I started trying to put her down more so that she wouldn't always need to be held... Now she is so chill no matter what. I love this child oooooooooooohhhh soooooo much. She is sleeping on my chest right now       I keep kissing her. I can't seem to do it enough!!!

No... you can't spoil babies that young... its impossible. They don't have the mentality to be spoiled until about 6 months.

No, you can't. And I think they almost wean themselves off of you independently. Mine's almost three months and sometimes when he's crying and I pick him up and snuggle with him the way I did when he was really small, he doesn't stop crying. But if I put him in his crib and give him a toy to look at, he stops. So enjoy it while you can. Mine also kicks SO much now when I hold him when he's crying that it's actually starting to hurt!

NOPE!!!! You are just responding like a good momma when your baby needs you   I held my oldest son all the time, everyday until he was quite big. He grew into the most independent little boy. He never was a clingy toddler, never cried when I left and just felt comfort knowing that mommy would always be there for him. Sometimes the spoiled clingy kids weren't held enough. Not always. But it can happen.

You have to read "The Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp. He puts everything in a very good perspective and like a few of the mommies have said, they are used to being held 24 hours a day so even if you are holding them for 20 hours, it is still 4 hours less then they are used to.
