6 weeks old--feeding

posted 18th Jun
What's the cons of giving cereal before 5 months old? I just don't think the milk is satisfying my 6 week old...He seems to drink 5-6 ounces every 4 hours, but lately he can only last 3 hours. Maybe he's hit a growth spurt, but he doesn't seem to stay full! Any suggestions?   He is formula fed by the way!

My son was, and still is the same way. Except he eats anywhere from 3-8 ounces every 2 hours, sometimes 3.We tried cereal, just once a day before bed(thought maybe it'd fill him up & he's sleep longer) but it didn't help any. My aunt was giving her son cereal at 6 weeks old, so was my friend who just had her baby a couple months before me. My doctor even said to give him cereal if I wanted..it's just recommended you wait til atleast 4 months. But it's completely your decision. But in my opinion, it was no help at all.

Chloe is 6 weeks old and when she has a 4oz bottle, I add 1/2 a teaspoon of rice cereal to her bottle. She loves it! She sleeps longer and she's more content. I know they say not to until 4-6 months, but my Mom had both me, my sister, and my brother on rice cereal by 3 weeks and it worked out fine.

How you'll know it doesn't work: more spit up or constipation.

Brennan eats anywhere from 4-5oz a feeding, every three hours on the dot. (And then spits up half of it).

edited to say that he'll be 6wks on Friday.

That is soo cute. The pic of him with one sock off. I have so many single socks just looking for their mates.

Please, don't give him cereal before it's time. It's only okay to give your baby cereal when the DR reccomends it because of reflux. Otherwise wait until at least 4 months.

Babies eat very often. Not because the formula isn't enough to satisfy them, but because they have small tummies and that formula can only last so long in their bellies.
Lucas is 5 months old and eats 6 ounces every 3-4 hours depending on how long his nap is. He used to eat 4 ounces every 2 hours.

It can cause allergies and obesity later in life. Babies nutritionally do not need any solids until 4-6 months and some people even wait until 8 months. I will be waiting until 6-8 months to start cereal and some days my son nurses every 1 1/2 hours. Babies eat often because they have small bellys. I personally feel very strongly against giving any solids before 4 months and really think people should wait longer...
