The economy!

What are the chances an act or terrorism will happen when & where I'm at? Not very likely. The threat of not being able to provide for your family is a much more immediate danger.

You do know how expensive that stuff is right?

I haven't got the memo about making clothes or planting stuff being out. I spent many hundreds of dollars on plants [trying] to grow. Killed them all LoL

But I love to design and make clothing! That is my passion. Right now I have a sewing machine & a bunch of patterns and not enough money to buy the fabric to actually sew stuff   Fabric costs a lot of money.

Both for me, but reality look at the gas inflation, the food prices and everything going up., I don't know how people are to survive with prices like this.

I fear a failing economy way more than an act of terrorism. It directly affects my family and my life. And if it's so much safer since 2004 why should we be afraid of a terrorist attack?

Do not confuse with making essential clothing with fashion design. Fashion is one of the problems that I don't think helps people's finacial standing. IE: A woman feels better when she wears designer duds. Um, they're clothes.

My mom sews and has been sewing since I was an infant. Matter of fact, all my clothes in kindergarten and first grade were all hand made. Then, as I got older, just my summer clothes were sewn, with some school clothes. It was actually cheaper this way.

I'll let you in on a little secret: An atom bomb will kill me. A failed stock market will not. I can grow a carrot and I'm not opposed to eating a ground hog. I guess it is true...that the meek shall inherit the Earth.

Sooo. I guess during the depression there really shouldn't have been a problem for anyone?

Yeah, really.

I'm more worried about our economy. What is going on as far as terrorism and hate in the middle east is horrible. But by butting our noses in right now, we're making ourselves even more of a target.
And in the meantime, our economy is going downward fast. The real estate market is plummeting, foreclosures are through the roof, gas prices are astronomical, food prices are ridiculous, food quality is incredibly diminishing.
In the long run, i think if someone is going to take me and whoever is near me out by an atom bomb or by a plane or whatever they choose, then whats done is done. Of course i would love to avoid such a situation, but i can't live my life in fear that someone is going to try to kill me or my family.
I just have to focus on keeping my family fed and warm and as safe as i can.

Long story short, i never bought into this war. it's merely a tug-of-war for control of oil. And it's killing Americans and America.
i wish they would focus more on the economy

Word.

Grr, I just saw this story on our news station about how food companies are putting less products into packages (such as chips/crackers/cookies etc) and yet prices are still rising. We're being ripped off. And i don't remember which paper towel company it was for sure but they lowered their rolls from 58 square thingys to 46? I didn't get to see the whole thing but it was pretty frustrating. Paying more for less.

The Depression happened and will possibly happen again because there are things like the stock market in the first place. People put too much emphasis on things like this, when in the grand scheme, it's really not that important. I can live without finances or money. Beyond the house, cars, clothes and other luxuries, I could survive.

The point I'm getting to is that survival is possible without all of what we have now. I think that more people should educate themselves on survival techniques, just because you never know.

The way I save on money with food is that I do have the luxury of utilizing the commissary. My friend and I also car pool to grocery shop and she lets me purchase on her Costco card. I can get two weeks worth of groceries on $100. Sure, we aren't dining on steak, but we do eat a lot of poultry. I've started baking our sweets, from cookies and cakes, down to the frosting. It really saves doing things that may take a bit more time.

You can thank irresponsible borrowers for the real estate market. I don't feel bad for these people. (Sorry if that offends anyone). You can't sit around and expect people to be honest with you, especially when they are lending you thousands of dollars. Should they be? YES! But, they are not. Simple math will tell you that a $50K/year salary can not yeild a $300,000 home. Sorry, numbers don't lie.

There's more than just one influence on the economy. People should just tap into their instinct a bit more and be prepared to go back to more simple means to survive.

I'm not talking about buying designer clothes lol i'm talking about going to a fabric store and trying to just buy fabric to make a couple shirts. i can't afford it. i wish i could, but i can't

and sure an atom bomb would kill you. thats a scary thought if you really feel its something thats in our future. i don't though. i don't feel at risk for any act of terrorism to be honest. not before, during or after 9-11. i remember i was hanging out down town the night of 9-11. i was on the roof or a high rise hanging out with friends. we saw cops parked on every corner (most were asleep in their car lol) and i thought it was silly. sure, shit happens. but what are the odds in all reality of it happening to me? i'm way more worried about a car accident or heart attack. not terrorism LoL

I'm glad you have all those luxuries, but not everyone does.

If the government is too busy picking fights to take care of its own people, then that government is failing in my opinion.
I think the economy is most definitely the government's fault. It may be easy for you to 'go back to more simple means', but its not practical for many people. Especially if America expects to keep up with the rest of the world.

What about people that live in the city..w/o land to plant carrots on..or a home sufficient enough to grow plants indoors?! That sounds like a great plan for a mountaineer..but its not practical.
I agree you don't need fillet Mignon. And we also eat more chicken instead of red meat. When I posed that question..I didn't mean luxuries.. I meant simply trying to survive. Being able to pay your heating, and energy bills. Feed your children..clothe them. And I think in all honesty..its cheaper to buy your clothes second hand..than to sew them.
I agree some technology is probably the worse enemy..you can't even apply for most jobs..if you don't have internet access. That is crazy to me..but that is the way it is.
