So disappointed! (boy or girl?)

posted 18th Jun
I had a dr. visit today that was pretty much pointless. I'm 14 weeks and all he did was get out his doppler (looked like mine) and found the heartbeat. He didn't even count it. He just said "Congratulations you're out of your first trimester." That is it?1 I hearthe heartbeateveryday at home on my rented doppler... which is much louder and more clear than the one he used. He set up another appt for 4 wks from now to do blood work. I will be 18wks...and he won't do an u/s then he said. He said 4wks after that we'll do an u/s and find out what it is. Why is he making me wait so long?! I was prepared to wait a few more weeks, not 8! My little sister found out her son was a boy when she was 14weeks...I'm jealous. I know its not that big of a deal...I'm just disappointed I guess.

I hope the time goes by quick. Maybe its just his comfort level in telling the sex of the baby. Some doctors dont like to say too early.

i hate those pointless appts too... but not everyone has a doppler at home, so its probablly to check if the baby is still there and how you are growing   i was always excited when i wasnt being violated anyway

I didnt have my first ultrasound with my first baby until i was 23 weeks... hes not concerned with the gender, he wants to make sure he can measure the baby really well.

With my second i had an ultrasound at 18 weeks [[diff doctor]] and had to come back 4 weeks later because they couldnt see the heart very well, because it was hidden behind my belly button...

most docs don't like to tell you till 20 weeks cause there is a very good chance it will be wrong!

I was 24 weeks when i found out i was having a girl. My friend found out at 15 weeks she was having a boy because they thought she was further along so they did an ultrasound then. Im 9 weeks now and i hope they dont make me wait that long. My boyfriend and I talked about going to an ultrasound place and paying to have one done. Its not too expensive, but Id rather not have to pay extra

It'll be ok! At least you have a better chance of them being correct about the gender at 22 weeks! My baby didn't cooperate the first time we looked, and the nurse said she was "pretty sure" so I had to wait until I was 22 weeks to know for sure.

I think I was 20 weeks when they told me. But I thought they would do it at my 16 wk appt, so I was bummed. But 14 weeks seems a little early, They might tell you it's a girl, and then something could sprout up.

The anatomy scan is one of the most important appointments of your whole pregnancy. It's not to ID gender (that's just a bonus) but to look for deformities, physical manifestations of different retardations and diseases, etc...So he just wants to be very sure he is going to get a really clear look at things. They will look at the brain and the heart, measure the femur, look at the skin at the back of the neck, etc... It's super cool, and there will be so much more to see because he is waiting a bit.

Haha, true. I was excited that I didn't have to undress "from the waste down".   Good way to look at it!

I got an ultrasound done at 13 weeks when I did the triple screen testing for neural tube defects. It was still too early to tell gender but the tech said her educated guess by the way everything was forming was that it was a girl.

I did not get my anatomy ultrasound until 24 weeks when she said pretty certain that it was a girl.

It was worth the wait though! The 13 week ultrasound pictures had my uncouth brother in law making comments about if I was giving birth to an alien baby because that really is what she looked like ... but at 24 weeks you could even see facial features really clearly, I didn't even need the 3D to know I am going to have a beautiful baby

I go back in 4wks toobut only for blood work. Maybe DH can talk him into doing an u/s then. Even if they can't tell the sex I would like to see the progress of the baby since my last u/s at 11 wks, ya know? Oh well....8 wks and counting!
