I was the same way, then with my 1sy she wanted nothing to do with sleeping with me, I had to get the strength up to go put her back in her crib, and my 2nd slept every night in my bed until she was about 6 weeks old, then she had enough, and wanted back in her own bed. I still say, This one is not sleeping with me in my bed, but I know it will probably happen... those 3am feedings kill ya sometimes!!

Darling, you shouldn't speak so fast. When the time comes, you will be fighting yourself not to let your baby sleep with you. When you haven't slept for two weeks straight and you have a screaming baby and the only thing comforting to him/her and you can barely open your eyes or walk or do anything for that matter, it's very easy to give in to letting them sleep with you or on you. So, please, don't say "Oh, I'll never do this." Because MOST moms do. You'll see.

this is my goal for my next baby too! Good Luck! It's very admirable.

Quoting It's a Hovey-Craft:“ I thought co-sleeping helped prevent SIDS?”
There are some studies that say it helps prevent it and some that say it doesn't.  Some people confuse SIDS with suffocation though.  A lot of babies that sleep with the parents that die in bed, are because of rollovers or some other form of suffocation.

Quoting The Original Mama Bear:“ Spell check! but... So far, I would have used a nipple sheild those first 2 weeks or so.”

First of all, you might want to use your own advice and spell check yourself. It's shield not sheild.
Second, I used a nipple shield and I wish to hell I hadn't! It's been hell breaking my little man from it! He won't open his mouth wide anymore and it's like he completely forgot how to latch. I've been trying to break him of it for 2 weeks now and we're finally making a little progress. I wouldn't recommend using one unless absolutely necessary.

First of all, I don't think there is really enough research to really say whether or not co-sleeping reduces the risk of SIDS. They really don't know what causes SIDS, it is just ridiculous how many things they say cause or reduce the risk of SIDS. I don't co-sleep because I think it is horrible for relationships. Mommy and Daddy definately aren't being intimate when they have their baby in bed with them. I never changed my mind about co-sleeping. I said that I wasn't going to do it when I was pregnant and I am still not doing it now that she is nearly 2 months old. As for what I would do differently, I would have researched Pediatricians more before I had the baby - I have already switched to a new one because I hated her first one.

I just heard that a study in the UK may have found a bacteria that causes SIDS.  It's still in early stages of research, but they think it's the cause.

i think the theory on co-sleeping preventing sids is that you are more aware of your baby.  Whereas when you are in a different room, you aren't.  You can feel and hear the baby breathing and you'll wake and be able to take action if baby does stop breathing.  I know when my sister was a baby, she slept in my bed and had sleep apnea.  EVERY time she stopped breathing, I woke up!
