Hmm, I'm not much help as I don't know HOW they do it, but I can say that once mine was removed (had no idea it was even in, I was so out of it during and after the C-Section), it hurt like hell to pee for the first time after it was removed! How old is she?

my daughter had one to check for a UTI. She did not like it at all. She was 1 and screamed but it was in and done with then. Is she getting a foley or straight catheter? Mine had the straight, in and out.

I'm not sure I didnt ask I didn't know there were two types of them they are doing it becaue when I took her to the ER her urine sample came back with bacteria but the hospital put a bag over her and her doctor said thats not really a sterile way to do it

There are several types of catheters but I'm guessing you mean to drain urine from the bladder a.k.a. foley catheter...?

I just don't like them..sorry i didn't mean to scare you, they really aren't that bad just really uncomfortable and not very private..most nurses can do it pretty fast...once it's in it won't hurt as bad it's the getting it in that's the uncomforable part.

they just slide a little tube in the uretha (sp?) and drain a little out of the bladder. Then they slide it out. It is normally only uncomfortable unless the area is inflamed.

they will do it for a few nurses. don't worry, we do these at work everyday. It's hard to watch your kids go through any pain. I understand.
