TTC & breastfeeding...

posted 17th Jun
I'm currently breastfeeding my 3 month old daughter. I really want one more child. I want my daughter to have a sibling close to her.(My 2 older boys live with their dad and are alot older than her.) My doctor said there was only a 2 % chance I could get pregnant while bf.. is this true?? I dont want to stop bf before my daughter is at least 9 months old, but it took us 4 years to have her, and I'm 35..soooo I dont want to push my luck too much. We are not preventing anything in the meantime. anyone know someone who has gotten pregnant while breastfeeding?

I heard that its hard ttc while brestfeeding becasue doing so makes your uterus contract. I also heard that it can cause a miscarriage

I find it hard to believe that there's only a 2% chance... I know of 3 people off the top of my head that conceived while they were breastfeeding and they weren't even trying! I would just go for it. Doctor's aren't always right, and neither are statistics

I breastfed for a full year and didn't get pregnant. I didn't even get my period until a month after my son was weaned.

2%... that seems low. I don't know personally anyway to increase your chances other than positive thinking!

I got pregnant with my daughter and was bf my son. He was 14 months when I got pregnant with my daughter and didn't even try or prevent it. Like you it took us a while to get pregnant. And to let you know I bf him until 18 1/2 months, so yes I was about 4-5 months pregnant when I weaned him, so it is okay to bf while pregnant.

It's usually the ones who WANT to get pregnant while breastfeeding who don't, and the ones who don't want to get pregnant do.

I got pregnant when my daughter was 6 months old while still breastfeeding her. Don't worry mama there's hope. Just keep nursing her because it's the best thing for her and things will work out for the best.

Thanks so much! You all have gave me hope!   I guess if its meant to be it will happen just like it did with our daughter. We tried for so long and even took fertility treatments and nothing worked, then we got pregnant on our own. If we are meant to have another baby it will happen, its just nice to hear the odds sound more than 2%!!
