Left hip pain

posted 17th Jun
Alright so I've been searching all over and can't find anything.

I have this intense sharp pain in my left hip, mostly in the back but sometimes in the front. I thought maybe it could be that sciatic nerve thing, but from what I've gathered, that causes pain down the legs, which I don't have.

It hurts horribly to go from sitting to standing, and to stand fully upright. It's starting to hurt now even as I'm sitting. It used to only hurt on occasion, but today it's being pretty constant. Anybody ever have something similar? I'm 30 weeks if that makes a difference. Any advice on what this could be or how to ease the pain would be awesome.

Sounds like your pelvis is out of whack. When mine isn't "even" then I get serious back pain...when it gets bad enough, it feels like it's coming from my hip. Hold on...let me find a link for a muscle technique you can do to release it....

The baby could just be sitting in your hip funny. Babies do all sort of weird things in there. at one point with my last pregnancy I swear it felt like the baby was playing the drums or something on my pubic bone. But I think it was just the hiccups. It sure felt funny though to get this rythmic tapping on your pubic bone lol. Try laying on your right side for a while and see if you can relieve your pain. Also trying sleeping with a pillow in between your legs at night. It might help keep it a little more aligined and help relieve the pain. Good luck. I had bad hip pain with all my pregnancies.

I already do the pillow thing, AND we have a sleep number bed so there is hardly any pressure on my hips while sleeping. I dunno what I'd do if I had our old bed, just the regular mattress. I guess I'm spoiled in that aspect, but that's why I'm wondering where the heck this pain is coming from! I'll try laying on my right side a while, maybe he is just wedged in there funny. Silly kid

Mine is like that too! It's so bad that anytime I get up from sitting or laying down I am near tears in pain. Standing, sitting, laying, everything in between hurts sooooo bad. Today I went to the chiropractor b/c it was getting so bad I almost couldn't move. Since going to the chiropractor and getting adjusted (he did my lower back, neck, and hip area) it feels much better.   It's still a lil sore and painful in certain positions, but nothing like it was last night or this morning. I was about to have to kill someone...lol Not literally of course but the pain was intolerable. Maybe try that, I've tried pain relievers, and heating pad or warm baths but nothing helped until now. Hope this helps, feel better soon

Hmm I'll have to maybe look into a chiropractor. I have tricare though through the military and I'm not sure if they cover that kind of thing. I'll check it out though, thank you!

Crap. The picture that I am looking for is not in either of those...

I will try and walk you through it. This works best on the floor. A bed is too soft.

Lay on your back with your knees bent. Take your right leg and, keeping your knee bent, put your right foot on top of your left knee. Now, try to pull up on your left leg, and push down using your right leg. You actually won't be moving...you are resisting against yourself. Hold this for 10 seconds. Repeat this 4 times, holding each time for 10 seconds. Now, gently put your right leg back down into the bent position like your left leg. Pretend that you have something between your knees that you want to squeeze together. Squeeze pretty hard and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat for a total of 3 times.

Now, don't just sit straight up! ROLL TO YOUR SIDE, and use your arms to help push you up to a sitting position.

I will warn you....this is not going to make you feel 100% right away. If your pelvis has been out of whack for a while, all of the muscles have been in the wrong place for a while, so they will be enflamed. You can repeat this as many times during the day as you want...but especially if you feel yourself getting "tight".

Let me know if this doesn't make sense!

Some common sense things:

Stand evenly. Women sometimes stand with their weight on one leg and that is BAD.

Don't cross your legs.

Get into and out of bed like I said above. Roll to your side and push yourself up. Reverse it to get into bed.

Sleep with a pillow between your legs, rather than with one leg hiked up higher than the other.

Basically, be aware of how your body is positioned and try to keep it as "even" as possible!

My husband recently went non-active duty so I understand your issues with tricare. But from our experience with tricare and chiropractic care, they don't normally cover it. What we did was call around. Some chiropractors have a special price for people who have to pay out of pocket for it. And from what I've gathered on prices a regular adjustment can range anywhere from 20-40 dollars, which really isn't that bad considering copays nowadays are normally $20 or so. But definately call around to see what the rates are for different doctors and what they do for patients that have tricare. Good luck!

Oh cool thanks. I've just never had to go outside the hospital for anything... I've actually only seen the OB docs since I've been married. So I dunno how it all works. I will start calling around now before they close.

I tried to do the stretches, but it's really hard having to lay on the floor. I had some really bad lower back muscles before getting pregnant, for which I went through physical therapy and everything for, but I know this isn't the same pain. But as part of that, it hurts to lay on the floor. This sucks! I'll try them in my bed, it may not be as affective but it's something right?

How are you feeling?

If it doesn't help in bed, could you kind of pad the floor (with some blankets,or a sleeping bag?) Something that will help you be able to be on the floor, but will give you more support than a bed? I know how bad it can hurt to lay on the floor, though....especially if your muscles and hips/pelvis are all messed up! I look like an 80 year old getting down there and then getting back up again!!

Well I tried to do it in the bed, but I could just hardly move yesterday. I'm really thinking my baby is just on a nerve bc out of nowhere the pain just goes away... Like today its completely gone... But it will be back, that's how it always is

Yeah, I've tried all kinds of stretches and moves to try to get everything loosened up and back in place but it is sooo painful I scream when I try to do them. I went into my chiropractor yesterday walking like an old lady and just threw myself on the adjustment table and was like, I feel miserable! LOL I explained the pain and the best way to explain it was intense, sharp, stabbing in my lower back and left hip. But b/c it's so intense and constant I'm sleeping like crap which in turn makes me feel like I have the flu with all over bodyaches! It sucks, but justa few weeks left   Don't feel bad, I can't get on the floor, the pain is so extreme trying to lay that flat that it takes the breath out of me. You are definately not alone   How'd the chiropractor/cost search go?
