preterm labor that goes away

posted 17th Jun
What does it mean to have preterm labor that goes away? I am 31 weeks pregnant and have been having moderate to severe cramping that feels exactly like menstrual cramps in my lower abdomen on and off for the past week. Sometimes it is constant and others it comes and goes. I have been attributing this to normal pregnancy pains but after reading the symptoms of preterm labor it sounds like this is what I have been experiencing. I have not had any pain yet today and am just wondering what that means to go away. Cervix dilation? Dehydration? Anyone else experience this?

I had pre-term labor at 32 weeks. Pre-term labor IS labor. They stopped my labor with drugs. If you think you are in labor go to L&D they should be able to stop it with medication. You may also be having braxton hicks contractions (False Labor) Better to be safe than sorry, go get checked out. Good Luck

I agree. If it is truly pre-term labor it won't go away by itself.

If you're having any type of cramping you should call your doctors office and tell them. They can tell you if they want you to come in or not (which more than likely they will)..

I don't understand your question about cervix dialation and dehydration....

Every pregnant woman's cervix dialates when she's in labor. I've been dehydrated a couple of times during my pregnancy because of being sick, but lots of fluids fixed that.

I thought possibly dialation or dehydration could be the reason for the cramping.

Well, if you even think you're dialating at 31 weeks you need to go to the doctor.

It really varies from person to person. Some people don't know they're dialated. Sometimes dehydration can cause cramping. I would def. talk to your doctor asap about your concers though, because 31 weeks is too early for the baby to come.
