Stereotypes

I was watching some nonsense on tv the other day and the person speaking said that stereotypes and racial jokes can be funny because there is truth behind them.

In your experience, have some or most of the stereotypes dealing with races other than your own been mostly true?

Honestly, I have encountered stereotypes and it always makes me laugh! I mean.. Try walking around the Mall of America for a day!!! But not every member of a race will fall into that

i dont know there are some strange people there. I go shop all day when my hubby has his CPE up in the cities and i kinda sometimes got scared going to my car by my self with someone of the people there

I think its a very valid conversation starter for debate and discuss.
I think sterotypes are that for a reason, but they are not always right, by any means.

I think to some comedians can pull of making a joke about a stereotype and some of them are funny bc they DO have some truth to them. Including ones about my own race, which makes it 10x funnier IMO bc its usually a joke told by someone thats NOT white (in my case) and its so dead on and funny to see it from someone elses POV. Now, there IS a fine line between joking about natural differences (which are more cultural than color based IMO) and being insulting and/or degrading another race. Thats NOT funny, not even a little. For example tho, Carlos Mencia pokes fun at EVRYONE with no exceptions and the man is hilarious and you can listen to some of his jokes and go "Oh, wow, thats actually a valid point!" However, i will be the first to say that it takes a special breed to do it w/o making it offensive.

Alyessa.. I am right there with you on that one!! I have been a bartender for 10 years, and they will tell me what a great job I am doing and sit there all night and not leave a cent!

But are we just trying to talk about the "funny" stereotypes? Or some of the less flattering ones?
