Paid sick time and maternity leave??

I had no idea where to post this.. But i have a question i have 5 days paid vacation and ten days paid sick time, thats 3 weeks right. So i am going on maternity leave and i asked my boss if i can get paid my vacation and sick time while on maternity leave. and she says no i can get my vacation she "guesses" but not the sick time   does this sound right?? or since i am entitled to it she should have to pay when ever i choose to use it?

they should pay you. i know my job has to.
because you don't get paid for maternity leave u only use your sick and vac time.

thats what i am thinking it should be required. i am afraid if i fight it, it will put me in bad terms..

Probably depends on company policy. If the company pays you maternity leave seperate from your sick time and vacation time, they may not. I'd check with HR and see what they say and see if they will explain why.

What about personal leave too? My husband has sick, personal and vacation. All of those are paid.

Do you have an HR department? That is really who you need to speak with, not just your boss, if you have one.

I believe that you should be able to use your sick and vacation time at the end of your maternity lave, but it might be different in different states. You are going to have to do some googleing of state law.

My husband is using a day or two of his personal leave when I go into labor, and he has put in tenativly (sp) that he will be starting his 2 week vacation on or around the 18th of August. That way he has some paid time with out using the family medical leave act, which is not paid.

I had this same problem when I went on maternity leave, and I work for a small company with no HR department (we have an HR lady we consult with, but she's not on staff). I had used 1 day of sick time before I had my daughter, and I had been told that I could use my vacation and/or sick time to cover part of the time I was out of the office. Well, a week before I had my daughter, my manager called me in and said the head of the company decided that I couldn't use my vacation or sick time while I was out...the entire 6 weeks would be unpaid. Nice of them to give me some notice...or a reason.  

I, too, decided not to fight it because I didn't want more headache than was necessary (and my manager has a tendency to be extremely moody). It's ended up for the better, though, because I've needed that PTO for days Cadence has been sick and other things. And I need the money now more than I needed it on maternity leave.
