years ago in the US they always gave women nitrous oxide for labor esp in the 60's and 70's. even into the 80's (late 80's cuz my sis got it in 1987.!

But yeah, while it wasn't quite an epidural, it definitely helped.. I wish i had been given it for my first!

They took it away from me a few minutes before i was ready to push because a side effect of getting too much of it is you pass out for a few minutes until you breathe out all the nitrous.. but it's supposed to be pretty safe.. i just remember begging my ob to give me one more hit off it before pushing, lol

hahaha... not that i've tried that but it's funny to think about the dumb things we do when were kids  . i've never heard of getting laughing gas either, but man, it sounds so much better than a needle! me and needles are NOT friends, lol.
