your lips do get dry because your doing alot of fast hard breathing... i brought some but only used it once lol.. i also brought stuff to suck on but i never used any of it! Once i was in hard labor i didn't even think about all the stuff i had brought for when i was in labor! My labor progressed VERY fast so i guess if it would have lasted longer i might have used more of the stuff eveyone said to bring..

Because you can't drink anything! You can only eat ice chips. I needed to be on oxygen myself, and having that thing strapped over your mouth & nose makes your lips extremely dry.

When can't you drink anything?? While in labour? I have never heard of this....We were told by the midwife at prenatal classes that the man's role is to constantly make us drink to replace amniotic fluid thats lost from membrane bursting and to not dehydrate us because that would end up in an even more painful labour.

Now that I have never heard before. Im just thinking, what harm can water do? My doc never said anything about that either.

I had a scheduled C-Section, but I have a few friends who have given birth vaginally and were allowed to eat and drink during labour, but weren't allowed to eat once they got the epidural.

I wasn't allowed to eat at all. Or drink. Even after the epi. All I had was ice chips. It sucked because I went in on a thrusday, was in labor untill friday, and couldn't eat any food untill sunday because of the medication i was on. all I could do was drink things.
