Friday, June 6th:
I was sitting on the couch watching some tv and just waiting on time since I was spose to meet Kristin for lunch that day. Well, I got up to start and get ready when i felt a gush of fluid come out of me...so i ran to the bathroom and pee'd except i was done peeing and i was still leaking fluid. So i did the "is my water broken test" where u put a paper towel on ur undies and see if it gets soaked after a few minutes. well it was...so I IM Jeff at work telling him that i think my water had broken. I went took a shower while waiting on Jeff and got dressed.
We got to the hospital around 1pm. Checked in at Winnie Palmer Triage and waited. While waiting to get into a room at triage I went and ate (since Jeff and Kristin were at the cafeteria already) In the middle of my meal my lil pager thing went off (they give u a pager so u can be notified when to come back so u can walk around and not worry about getting called and missing it) I ate as fast as i could before heading over to triage. So Jeff and I went in to triage and got set up in a room. I got checked to verify that my water bags had indeed broke.. and it was. Doc said, "well, ur not leaving the hospital this time, ur having a baby
" that made me happy. I was hooked up on IV's and we sat in the triage room for a few hours while waiting for a room up in the Labor & delivery floor. Around 6ish p.m. finally got wheeled up to L&D, then they hooked up the pitocin (oxytocin) to my IV to get my contractions going (ok gotta get back on my train of thought..had to feed the baby) ok so pitocin, IV, contractions...they kept up-ping my pitocin dosage to get the right cocktail for my contractions to get going, and help me dilate more which was taking forever! At this point I haven't asked for the epidural yet since my contractions were still bearable...it hurts a bit but not too too bad. Well around midnite out of nowhere my contractions got really painful! Painful enough that i was crying..so i asked for the epi and got it pretty quickly. It was a bit difficult but I managed to stay still while getting my spine poked, of course i probably almost broke off Jeff's fingers as I was squeezing the crap out of it with every contraction. Before the epi had gone over my system I had progressed from almost 5cm dilated to 9-10cm dilated in a matter of a couple mins.
So finally I was ready to push. They had me on the usual facing forward, legs pulled back position but Jordan wasn't cooperating that way. we tried a few other positions and finally got on my side and he was more cooperative then. The pushing lasted almost 3 hours and even with the epi, it still hurt A LOT when he's head was right there. Ended up with a 2nd degree episiotomy and some tears. Finally, he was out! He didn't cry too loud or anything, apparently he had his umbilical cord wrapped once over his neck then his shoulder which was why he's heart rate goes down on certain positions when i was trying to push him out. Jeff cut Jordan's cord, then he was taken to the warmer to get cleaned up. he was breathing a bit too fast for a few minutes but he slowed down after he was put on my chest.
I had to get more anesthesia after he came out because my OB had to do some stitches and I was feeling everything she was doing. After a few hours we we're finally wheeled up to the Mommy & Baby unit. Jordan was taken to get a bath, Jeff went with him but wasn't allowed to take pictures
We were at the hospital till monday nite. Saturday nite i had a minor panic attack, that we think was due to the fact that i haven't slept in a long time. I was having chest pains, nausea and difficulty breathing. they gave me some drugs through my IV and apparently i was knocked out within 5 mins.
We got home monday nite. everything is still so surreal. i mean just a few days ago Jordan was in my belly kicking the crap out of me and now he's in my arms all snuggly and squirmy. Wednesday was a pretty busy day. We took Jordan to his first doctor's visit and he also got circumcised that day
After that we met up with my mom and lil sister who came down to visit. My mom ended up buying Jordan so much stuff! She got him a crib, rocker and a whole bunch of clothes, then she bought Jeff and i $100 gift card each, she spent about $800 that day, i couldn't believe it. That nite was pretty rough though. Jordan wouldn't sleep and just kept crying all nite. He would nurse almost every hour get quiet for a few then start crying again. I so do not believe that babies don't feel the pain of circumcision. such a lie. the past few days have been a lot better though. I ended up calling the pediatrician thursday because Jordan had 3 poopie diapers in like 15 mins and that freaked me out on top of the crying all nite. Everything turned out to be ok.
The past couple of nites I've had to wake him up in the middle of the nite to nurse cuz he wouldn't wake up! It's good and bad all at the same time i spose. He gets fuzzy for being woken up but he does want to eat except he fights me first.
So far, the 1st week has been pretty good. tiring, but good. I love to just watch him sleep and kiss him all over. He is so worth all the the trouble and pain that I went through throughout this pregnancy. My lil munchkin.
here he is! only a few minutes old!
a week later:
