Quitting my J.O.B.

posted 16th Jun
Okay, so we're going to try me not working for a while (this may change after the baby's born due to money problems or something). So I'm going to quit my job, no maternity leave, just quit. And if I have to go back to work, then just find something else anyways. Well, I'm gonna do the nursery and all that good stuff once I'm home every day. When do you think a good time to quit would be? To give me enough time to prepare for the baby (house, nursery, ect.) considering the baby will be here early October?

Is there a reason you are planning to quit early? How long have you worked there? Would you get paid maternity leave if you stayed until a few weeks before the baby is born?

Im 32wks and would love to quit working, but I cant just yet!! I did however cut my hours to part time! and that has given me alot more free time to get things in order!
Why did you decide to just quit and not wait for maternily leave to kick in? just curious! Wish I can do the same, but I need as much money as possible

I'm due in October too and I don't work- I wish I did because I'm going CRAZY waiting on this little one to get here. Working at least part time will give you something to do and will probably help the time pass a little easier. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

I cut down to part time at about 30 weeks and then worked until I was 36 weeks which was when I could get my paid maternity leave. My daughter came 1.5 weeks later and I was already bored! I had finished the nursery and gotten everything that I needed done within that first week...the rest of the time I was miserable and just waiting for something to happen! If I had been at work, I would have been too busy to be bored!

I would stop work a month before your due date. Unless you have some bizzare complications it'll give you plenty of time to prepare, without overdoing the boredom of sitting around waiting for your baby.

I am all for staying home if you are able to. My first baby I was in the middle of college and then started my internship and then he was around one when I went to work full time, when I got pregnant with my second I quit my job immediately and figured I would never work with babies at home as long as we could afford it. Thanks to my husbands great job!! In the mean time I decided I would try something on my own with my own hours so I started selling Mary Kay from home.

no maternity leave, no benefits, dental, 401K...nada. My boss is being pretty pissy and stuff and keeps saying something about 6 weeks maternity leave. He can kiss my fat ass. So I'm just going to quit. I've already offered a better job a few months after the baby is born, it'll open some time around May-ish of nexy year, which would be prefect (my friend is opening his own law firm, and wants me to come work for him) . I wanted to take the time off early because, well, we can afford to take off a little early, and we haven't even gotten out house moved yet, so there will be ALOT that needs to be done, and I haven't even THOUGHT about the nursery yet.

Today is a good day. I just walked out on my job today! I put my resignation and badges in an envelope and handed them to the receptionist to give to HR. I just couldn't work there another day. Good thing I have a new job that starts next monday

Honestly, IMO I'd wait until after the maternity leave...what's better than 8 weeks of free pay????
