well this is kind of long but i need some advice..I have a 6 1/2 year old dog thats been staying with my aunt and yesterday my aunt called me to come pick up my dog a week agob/c its getting to be to much plus she has 4 kids..So i bring my dog back to my 2 bedroom appt knowing what im going to do..I have a baby boy who has his own room and then were expecting our second here soon who will be sharing a room with us and we already have a rat terrior dog as well..Our rat terrior great to have arounnd our son he can play with here pull her tall and she wont bit him but with this dog i have to watch my son b/c she a bigger dog and he cant do those things to here b/c i m afraid that she will snap on him..Well over the weekend me and my husband decided to take the big dog to the shelter b/c we have 2 bedrm appt with 2 kids and a dog already and we have know room. Well a few hours after we dropped her i called the shelter to see if everythings going well and the lady tells me NO that my dog snapped at a worker while the worker was trying to put a colar on her and that my dog didnt pass any of there tests, she said that she has to pass a few tests in order for them to put her up for adoption. She told me that i can either pick her up or there going to have to put her to sleep.So we went to pick her up and now im just sitting here not knowing what to do..Weve asked everyone that we know if they ant her and know one wants her her..If i had a house i wouldnt mind b/c she can stay outside but i live in in 2bdrm appt with 2 kids and a dog already..The lady at the shelter told me it would be best to have her put to sleep that way i can atleast have her ashes..She also explained to me that there shelter basically takes in any dog and if they cant take a dog, she doubts any other shelter will b/c the other shelters around us are all really strict..we plan on buying a house in 7 months but im a stay at home mom and i cant take care of 2 babies and 2 dogs during the day..So do u all think its best to put her to sleep since theres no other alternative for her..I cant stop crying i dont know what to do..this is so hard for me

I think you should place an ad in the paper and find the dog a home. I do not think you should put the dog to sleep.

Nope, I don't think its fair to put her to sleep because you can't handle her. She didn't do anything wrong. Most dogs won't handle a bunch of strangers all that well. I say you put an ad in the paper or something, go to local pet stores, give her to a good home. Puttting her to sleep for no reason isn't right.

Have you checked nursing homes..sometimes they need a therapy dog..or a foster home (for children)

You can also ask vets to put up ads in their office or even dog supply stores.

My parents just adopted an older dog (they prefered since it was already trained and out of the "puppy" stage)

this is a really sad situation, and i'm sorry you're going through all of this.

Honestly, as heart breaking as it is, the best thing to do would be put her to sleep.

how awful would it be if she bit one of your kids? i know you'd feel terrible.. but it would be just as bad if you found her a home yourself and knew what she could do... you'd have guilt that maybe she'd bite someone or hurt someone even worse.

if you wanted to find a little rescue group that works with unpredictable dogs, then do that.. but i would not keep a dog i cant trust around my children, or feel safe passing her off on someone else who doesnt have a clue.

my dogs not the kind of dog...shes really hyper and she can be mean..My brothers 20 years old and he tried taking her for walk and she dragged him b/c she wanting to run after another dog

I would not have her put down. I would keep trying to find her a home. She is a dog... an animal and doesnt deserve to get put down just bc no one wants her. I am sorry, I just love animals.

when people see my dog they get scared!! nobody even wants to pet her..people wont give her chance b/c she a big big dog and when people see her they walk the other way

So the dog needs to go to a home where someone can take the time to work with her and train her properly. Maybe a home with no kids. I dont know but getting her put down is just not fair. =[ I would take her if I didnt already have 2 dogs who are only a yr old and already HUGE!!!

What kind of dog is it? Why is she so mean? I've never seen a mean natured dog, I've seen the nicest pit bulls, rotties, I have a boxer that is a giant baby. Its the way that they are raised/treated. Maybe she just needs some time and energy, it sounds like she has been moved around a lot and I just don't know that she has been in the best situations. I am not saying that you need to have her in your appt, honestly not the best place for a big dog anyways. I wouldn't want her around my children either, but honestly I think there has to be another option then killing the dog.

do you feel she has the ability to really hurt someone? child or adult..?

My male dog is huge too and only a year old. He has a mean bark and growl and evryones scared of him, but i would not get him put down. keep trying , something will come thru sooner or later
