Honestly it sounds like you know what you want to do. If you were looking for us to be simpathetic to you putting her down then it looks like you might get it from a few people, but not everyone. Do what you think you need to do, but remember its not the dogs fault. Good Luck! I hope things work out for the best!

Honestly, you need to determine if the bitting issue is actual aggression or a behavioral issue. I would take the dog to a veterinarian, or have behaviorist asses the dog. If the dog is truly aggressive, then it should be put to sleep. Some behaviors can be corrected, but it would mean putting time and effort in to it, if you can't (obviously because of you situation) then I would have the dog put to sleep.

And for everyone who is an animal lover and telling her it's a bad choice... I love animals too... I work with them hands on for a living.. However I'm a realist, she is not saying that she wants the dog to leave because she doesn't want to take care of it, it's because she's afraid for her children's SAFETY. Last time I checked, as much as my animals are my babies, my human babies do come before them.

I never said to put her children in harms way because of the dog. I would say I am an animal lover, but I am definetally not unrealistic. I grew up on a ranch and understand what is necessary. From everything that she has said the dog hasn't bitten anybody, the dog is just too much for her to handle. If the dog was a DANGER to anybody I can understand putting her to sleep. Most of us also said that it would be best for her to get rid of the dog, find another home for her. For her childrens sake and the dogs!

She said in the OP, that the dog snapped at someone at the shelter, and then the decision was made the the dog would be put to sleep if she didn't pick it up. She also expressed concerns that the dog might bite her child, as well as, her brother (I think it was..) was walking the dog and couldn't control it. It's also growling at people including her own child and snapping at her MIL. Those are HUGE issues.
