very worried!!! (long)

ok my daughter is 12 weeks old tomorrow and i have just got back from the doctors with her cause she is refusing to feed she had a 6oz feed at 6am on sunday morning and then refused to take anything until 3pm today(monday) and even then she only took 2oz she cried constantly for 12 hours i have now got her to go to sleep, i have been syringing water into her so she doesnt get dehydrated but when i try the same with her milk she spits it out the dr says they cant find anything except a bit of thrush in her throat they have given me medicine for that and have said if she continues to refuse her milk in 24 hours time i have to take her back and they will be admiting her to hospital for tests and to go on a drip or something to get food into her...... has anyone had this happen this is my second baby and have never had a problem getting my son to eat so this is new territory for me she was born 4 weeks early and i went into false labor 3 times starting at 30 weeks so im wondering if that could be something to do with it if anyone has any ideas what could be causeing this id be greatfull as the doctor didnt say much just that there was nothing obvious in her stomache or on her chest that would cause this....... please help cause i really dont know what to do to help her or what could be wrong for her to all of a sudden stop feeding like this

Maybe the thrush is causing her to have a sore throat .. I got thrush when I was a baby and had a sore throat and wouldn't eat for over a week, they admitted me into the hospital. I have lots of throat problems now, and my breathing passages never opened up as normal kids' do when they grow... but, my mother also smoked with me so that might have had something to do with it... but I'd bet on the sore throat, cold things help relieve it for a while but they suck! lol

It's probably the thrush, why do doctors assume things don't hurt that much.Pain is relative, it is as bad as people feel its bad-Geesh.Treat her and I bet she'll eat soon-maybe try cold formula?

i hope thats all it is but there isnt much in the way of cold things i can give to her apart from boiled water out of the fridge with her being so young

yeah i might try that thanx girls ive been pulling my hair out over this my son has always been healthy as an ox so ive never had this kind of worry before and i never want it again lol

Hey I hear ya, I got one kid never gets sick, and the other gets some weird thing every friggin month.I would be worried too but just keep trying things, and the water too.Good luck-keep us posted please!

i will, she is asleep for the moment and im not gonna wake her up as she hasnt slept for longer than half an hour since sunday night so i will try some stuff when she is awake and hopefully the crappy smelling gunk they have given me for her thrush will work extra quick and i will have my happy contented angel back in no time id even settle for a grumpy fussy baby right now aslong as she eats and doesnt end up in hospital....lol

just an update i took freya back to the docs on tuesday and they sent her into hospital they kept her in did blood tests and were even thinking of doing a lumbar punctur to find out what was wrong with her..... well they found out she has ulcers in her throat that have been causing her sooo much pain that she didnt want to eat so they have now given her some spray to numb her throat so she can eat and they have sent her home now which is good but i will say that tuesday was one of the scariest days of my life they made me stand with her while they but the canular in the back of her hand and it broke my heart they way she looked at me while they were doing it.... but im glad they have found out what is wrong and that i now have her home safe and sound

Wow you poor things, how traumatic!What would cause the throat ulcers?I'm glad you went with your intincts and persued this.I hope she is better soon, please keep us posted!

the dr said its just a virul infection that has manifested itself into ulcers on her throat poor little thing, she is getting better now tho she is back to eating 4oz so nearly back to her normal 6oz and she seems to feel better in her self aswell so im just glad she is on the mend

ok hopefully this is the last update: Freya seems to be all better now she is sleeping with out waking up in pain she isnt needing pain relief at all and she is feeding without having the numbing spray. she was her happy smiley self all day today execpt getting frustrated with herself cause she cant sit up yet but other than that i finally have my happy easy going baby back. My friend who is a nurse came over and checked her over for me and even tho she isnt a pedi nurse she said the ulcers seem to have cleard up completely which is great. She has told me to be carefull of who is around her and where we go for the next week as her immune system will still be low and i dont want her to get ill again but other than that she should be fine which is a huge relief. Thank you all so much for your help and concern i know now it wasnt too serious but when she was in hospital and they were talking about all sorts of tests and doing a lumbar punctur it was very scary (my thoughts and sympathy goes to anyone who has had to go through that with their child) and knowing that there were people who cared even tho they dont know us was comforting again thank you all
