Going to Have a Preemie

10 days ago I was admitted to the hospital because I have ruptured and am leaking amniotic fluid. I am not 32 weeks and 3 days and my doctors are planning on inducing labor between 34-35 weeks. So far, everything has gone great... I have shown no sign of infection, I am not leaking that much, and the baby looks great on the monitor. They did an ultrasound last week and estimated my baby to be about 4 pounds. I was also given steroids for lung development last weekend.

My question is for mom's who have had their baby around 34-35 weeks. Were there problems? How big were they? How long did the stay at the hospital?

I don't have a premie but I wanted to say: I went through the same thing but I was around 34 weeks along when a slow leak occured. They were able to keep Will in there another 4 weeks before inducing. Good luck!!

Thank you! I am not too worried from what I have heard from my doctors and the NICU here... she'll probably just have to stay here a little longer. The hardest thing right now is being stuck at the hospital. Especially with my daughter being at home. So, on one hand, I am ready to get out of here... on the other I want her to stay in as long as possible.

No, I was on bedrest anyway so they just kept me on bedrest and did NST's at all of my visits from then on.

Awww sorry to hear that ur membranes prematurely ruptured! i had my first at 35w and he was 5lb 6oz and only stayed in the nicu for a week because of the jaundice and to watch over him to make sure everything was ok! try not to stress ur self out ok!  

Oh so you have to stay at the hospital for 2 weeks?

I don't see why I can't do that same thing. I know that I am open for infection, but they've already pumped me with antibiotics and are now just monitoring me. The baby's heart rate is great, I am having NO contractions, and I am not leaking enough to even make the bed wet. It's very frustrating. I still have 2 weeks til they want to talk about inducing labor.

Yes ma'am. I am stuck here til I deliver. It's quite frustrating. I know it's best to monitor everything... but not very convenient.

Thank you. I am glad to hear that a lot of babies born around that time are a good size and don't stay too long in the hospital. It sure makes me feel better.

I am trying not to stress. Since I have been here over a week already I have grown accustomed to being here. The first few days were a little rough though.

make sure u ask lots of questions and let the dr know of any concerns! I literally harrased my drs when i was admitted! i was starting labor with my first as 6mo and was dialated to 2cm and kept him in there with the help of hospitalization and brethine pills. But i always wanted to know what is going on. i had my son after being released literally 2days later! and i was in the hospital for 3weeks before that! Lots of luck and try to stay comfy! i knew after a few days i was antsy and wanted to go the hell home! but i did puzzles and read books.

well I am hope they are treating you nicely.

i had my son at 34 weeks 1 day
he was 6lbs 2.8 oz 17 inches long
he was early due to severe preeclampsia
he stayed in the nicu for 2 weeks exactly. . . . they poked their ass on getting him home though so i think he would have been in there less time had they done things right
