oh no, not headlice!!!

posted 15th Jun
so apparently my little sister got a case of headlice from school and my mom "forgot" to inform me  . My sister has practically stayed at my house every other day since school let out, so she's been rubbing her head on all the furniture, sheets, etc. I noticed my son, who is only 19 months old, diggin his head last night in his sleep, so me and my fiance held him under a lamp to check, and sure enough, my poor baby is ate up =(. I'm going to go out today and get the spray to spray down all the furniture and stuff, but what can i use to treat him? He does have a headfull of hair, but it's so thin and ugh, i just can't believe he has his first case of headlice so young, i feel horrible. Do they make headlice treatments for such young ages?

Oh no ...
Get a lice comb and olive oil or conditioner and pick it out , none if those treatments are safe for babies.

Aw, that is horrible that he has it! But its not your fault your mom didn't tell you. How were you to know?

I'm not sure about the medicine though....

Best wishes.

Make sure to wash all his stuffed animals and stuff like that, too. They like to hide in there.
My cousins used to have lice all the time. Whenever they would stay the night, my mom would immediately take their clothes off, wash them, and give them a bath, treating their hair. But they weren't as little as your son.   Sucks you have to deal w/this rigth now.

I would call the doc. to see what to do... they might be able to give you some kind of medication or shampoo for it. Other then that a lice comb. I use to get lice a lot whenI was really young... it sucked =[

i figured they probably didn't make anything for kids so young. Getting him to sit down long enough for my to run a lice comb through his head will be interesting to say the least, but thank you so much for the advice! I have honestly never heard of such little kids getting it, i guess i thought where there hair was so thin that the lice wouldn't stick or something, i swear i about died last night when i looked through his hair, because like i said, he is literally ate up, and to watch him dig his head makes me feel about an inch small. I've yet to say anything to my mom yet, it was my sister, who stayed here last night, let the cat out of the bag and told me that she had it, my mom KNOWS she has it, and neither of them told me. I can understand my sister, she's 12, and i know she was probably just embarrassed, but for my mom to not tell me, just kills me. Especially considering the fact that i'm 38 weeks pregnant, and now i have disenfect the whole house and all that, like i don't already have enough on my plate. My fiances hair is to short to have it, but my hairs thick, and if i do have any, it's going to be a true bitch to get rid of them. Do you happen to know if pregnant women can treat there hair? or am i going to have to wait until i give birth?

The best thing to use and its all natural. Put Mayonaise not miracle whip real Mayonaise on his head then cover it with a shower cap for 12 hours then rinse with vinager. It sounds nasty but my little sister got like 5 times in the period of two months when we were little and that was the only thing my mom could do to get rid of it!

What we use....I get a bottle of tea tree oil (at walmart in where the vitamins are) and pour 2 or 3 capfuls into a bottle of regular shampoo and shake it good so it all gets mixed together. Put it on the scalp and let sit for about 15-20 minutes or so and wash it out. Also rub some baby oil into your hair and then you can comb through with a lice comb. I keep a bottle of my tea tree shampoo and use it about once a week and plain shampoo the rst of the time. It seems to help keep the lice away.

Wow does that really work?
my son came home from playgroup a few weeks with headlice, and he was a nightmare to treat, we did the Tea Tree Oil as they dont like the smell, and just comb his every night/day when he would let me. but next time i will have to give that go,

Yeah it does. My aunt does the same thing. Also, if they dont have much hair then hair spray pretty thick and leave it on long enough for the lice to suffocate and that usually works. Dont forget to get some RID spray for the house. Wash the hair really good every night letting the shampoo and condition sit in the hair for about 3 minutes each before rinsing. I dont understand why they didnt just get rid of her headlice when she got it instead of letting her keep it. I would be so pissed and she would get a head check everyday she wanted to come over for atleast a month after that.

RID is no different then hair dye. You can use it when you are pregnant just be in a well ventilated area. Your son is almost at the age to use it but I would call the Pedi first since he isnt 2 yet.
