posted 15th Jun
my sons a month old and formula hasn't been really satisfying him. He kills a good 4 ounces every 3 hours and everyone is telling me to put a little bit of cereal is his bottle.... have you ladies done that?? or is it a big no no??

you're not supposed to give your baby solids until at least 4 months.

4 oz every 3 hrs isn't a lot.  Nathan has been drinking that since he was about  month old and he's almost 6 months.  I wouldn't put cereal in his bottle if I were you.  People, especially older people, are always saying that you should do that to fill them up but I wouldn't.  They can have a bad reaction to it also.

My son was eating cereal since he was 4 months and then when he was 5 months, had a really bad reaction to it so I highly suggest not to.

I started maddy on rice and a month and a half old .... ONLY ON HER DRS ORDERS ..... I would just call and ask your pedi about starting the cereal .. Maddy wasnt gaining weight from just the formula , so they had me start her on rice .... and if I felt like it I could add a bit to her formula if she wouldnt take it off the spoon..... Good luck

I bumped my little one to 6 oz.'s, of which she gobbles up quite feverishly every 4-5 hours. Shes 2 months old now, and it seems 6 oz.'s isn't enough for her. But I am scared to put 8 oz's in her bottle. I asked her dr if I could put cereal in her formulas, and advised against it upping her to 8 ozs, but to go ahead and substitute one meal a day with an ounce of cereal to a 5 oz bottle. She does well with it.

I'd first try more formula, considering he's still young. You don't want to get his little belly too full with thick cereal just yet. Just increase it little by little, like try 5 ozs and see how he does first.

I wouldnt put anything in the bottle otherwise he will get used to it and not drink straight formula anymore goodluck

Try giving him 5 maybe 6 oz you dont want to put cereal in their bottle unless under doctors orders. It's choking hazard, my son was drinking 5oz at 2-3 wks. It upping the oz's dont work then try switching formulas.

No reason not to?? If the doctor doesn't say to do it then you shouldn't put cereal in the bottle.

Just because your mom did it and your SIL did and there were no adverse reactions doesn't mean that your child or someone else's child isn't going to have a bad reaction.

Before putting cereal in a bottle or giving it to a child you should speak w/ the doctor.. especially if your child isn't old enough to be started on solids yet.

They need time to grow and develop and if you start solids too soon you can really damage their insides.
