If you had the choice

posted 14th Jun
I am scheduled for a c-section on Tuesday because my baby weighs over 9 lbs and I have not dilated any. I still have the option of being induced, but my doctor says that more than likely I will be one of those that labors for 15 hours and inevitably has to have a section because of me not dilating AT ALL. I have only thinned 40%, but little man has to come out because he is so big. If you ladies had the option, would you try to be induced or just go ahead with my scheduled c-section. I can still change my mind with no problem, but I really need some advice.

ouch.. big guy...

sometimes they arent as big as the doctors think... maybe try induction.. just to say you did, and if it doesnt work- go for the ceserean..

either way, good luck

I really wanted a vaginal so in your situation I would probably ask for the induction. The recovery time from a vaginal birth and a c-section are such a big difference I wouldn't have wanted to go through a c-section unless absolutely necessary

I was told my boy was going to be nearly 10lbs plus well hello what do you know I was induced at 41weeks and he came out 8lbs 8.5oz so he wasn't that big after all  honestly they can only guess the weight of your bubba........... I would personally try for a vaginal birth and if it ends up in a c-section then so be it...... but the main thing is at least you tried

How are the getting the baby's weight? Is it by an ultrasound? If so those can be off by quite a bit! Why are they concerned that you haven't dilated any, you aren't even due yet! If there isn't some medically necessary reason that your baby needs to come soon I would try to wait a little longer, or at least opt for the induction, I would NOT go straight for a c section.

If it were me, and they told me I would most likely end up needing the Csec anyway, I'd go for the Csec. There doesn't seem any reason to me to put yourself and your little man through the torturous labor process and maybe him getting stuck b/c you're not dilated enough etc...if I were presented with that choice I'd go ahead for Csec. But that's me.

I was told my whole pregnancy that I'd need a C-sec bc of the baby's size. I wouldn't let that be your determining factor. My son was only 7lb 14oz. I wanted natural labor, so I would go the induction route and see what happens. Regardless, your doctor will be prepared if you don't dialate to do the surgery, but at least you would have given it a chance. It just depends on how important having a vaginal birth is to you.

Another reason he suggested a c-section is because this past Thursday when I was at the doctor, his heart rate dropped in the 60's and I almost had to be rushed to labor and delivery right there to have him. I made it over to get a sonogram and it FINALLY went back up, but it literally scared me to death, so my doctor is worried about his heart rate dropping again if I try to go vaginal..gosh I just cannot decide. I know the ultrasounds have a margin of error don't get me wrong, but I also know that my baby is big and the doctor is convinced that as of Thursday he was definitely over 8 and a half, so by Tuesday he very well be a 9 lb monster. I still have time, so I just wanted advice.

Well in that case I'd take a c-section............... I wouldn't want my baby's heartrate to drop during labor......... I'd go with the planned c-section to be on the safe side

My daughter was almost 9 pounds and i had her vaginally... i personally would attempt a vag first and if it didnt go well then opt for a csection...

im short too im 5'3/4" and i still did it, but safety first so just make the best decision for you and the baby!!

My son was 9 pounds 2 ounces.
I was induced 7 days overdue and had him 8 days overdue.
When I went in, I was a finger tip dialated, 0% effaced, and he hadn't dropped.
I was in labor for about 18 hours and pushed for 1 1/2 of those hours.
He was perfectly healthy and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
If I had the option, I would def. try the induction.

Isay induction too.

They keep telling me that my baby is going to be 8.5lbs or over and I still want to try naturally.

I just don't want to mess with the sugery or the stitches.. or the longer healing process... or the scar.If it is medically necessary, then of course I would do it, but I really want to delivery vaginally.

I would have said the induction until i read your second post about his heart rate. I wouldn't mess with that for a second! 60 bpm is super slow (even though it was only temporary) and who knows minute to minute how well the placenta is supplying him with what he needs to survive....I've heard too many stories about the baby getting too big and the placenta not keeping up...awful things can happen. Get him out as easily (least traumatic) and quickly as possible is what my opinion is!
