Baby sunburn

posted 14th Jun
I have a 4 month old and I took her to the pool today for a couple hours and I put sunscreen all over her body except I didnt think to put any on her head so now she has a sunburn on her head
What should I put on it? Should I take her to the doctor?

use some aloe vera and if its turns into blisters I would get the GP to check it.... also its a great idea to make them always wear a hat and sunglasses so they get used to them for when they are schoolage...The kids at our schools have a no hat no play policy so if they dont wear a hat they dont get to go outside..... I get my kids to wear hats from 3 months...Although the sun and skin cancer rates here are harsh....poor baby hope everything turns out ok

Something with Aloe Vera in it (alot of lotions have it). There's also this spray stuff you can get to "cool" ths burn but I don't remember what it's called.

Pure Aloe works great. Put it on little by little and sit in front of a fan. Keep doing that until the skin is no longer hot to the touch at least.

Hope it turns out ok for the poor child.

We are lucky that sun safety and cancer prevention is drilled into us so harshly over here. They have a direct link between sunburn in children under 14 and higher risk of cancer.

Here are a few home treatments:
  • Soak a washcloth in equal parts of milk and water to make a cool compress.
  • Add oatmeal [0.5cups] or baking soda to a cool water bath.
  • Use a moisturizer or light powder to smooth areas where skin rubs against skin to prevent chafing.
  • Use calamine lotion for itching.
  • Cut a raw potato and spread the juice on the burned skin.
  • Use chamomile diluted in warm water or brewed into a tea to sponge on the burned skin.
  • Add 2 to 3 drops of lavender essential oil to 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil to smooth over the burned skin.

Avoid breaking open any blisters, and watch for any signs of a skin infection while using home treatment measures.

thanks everyone. Her head is pretty red and I can tell shes crying more than usual but I hope its not too bad. I do have a hat for her, but It was left in my sisters car and she was at work   I did bring her sunglasses though. I feel so dumb for not thinking her head would get burned.
