1st Birthday HELP!

posted 14th Jun
I have a little over a month to plan for Averi's 1st bday. I have NO clue what to do. I NEED ideas and i figured you 1st bday vietrans could give me some.

Here's some info on the "party":
~Its August 22nd
~Its mostly adults attending. Averi has no little friends. No little cousins (in the area). So she'll be the only kid (sadly).
~She will be walking pretty well. She's already walking wobbly now (9m 3w old). In 1 1/2 months im pretty sure she'll be walking quiet well.
~She likes the Backyardigans

Thats allgot for now. Any thought or comments would be super appreciated.

Also, what kind of gifts to get a newly 1yr old? What did ya get them?

Thank you!

I would do like a family style BBQ at a park or in your backyard if it's big enough. For my daughter's first birthday I got her one of those little tykes toddler climbing structures and she loves it. SInce she will be the only kid you can probably skip all the party bag stuff but I would definately try and find some decorations and a cake in the Backyardigan theme. I did a princess theme for my daughter's birthday and her favorite decoration was her birthday balloon (she played with it for a week until it deflated) and she still likes to play with the little figurines that came on her cake.

When my little sister turned 1 the things she got were mostly clothing & toys... some sippy cups since most kids don't need bottles after 1.

This is the play structure we bought:

Oh and this is my daughter's favorite toy right now so it would probably make a good birthday gift for a 1 year old:

You can check out party express online they have backyardigans things. I did that theme for my almost 3 year old last year on her 2nd b-day. SHe loves them. My sister in law made me a pablo cake and a tasha cake. It was awesome looking. If I can find the pics I will post them for you to see. But yeah go to google and type in party express and it should pull up the party place.

edited to say: anything with flashing lights and music will be perfect for a 1 year old. Walmart use to have tons of backyardigans toys and they also have the show on DVD so you could get her one of those to watch over and over and over again lol. I did that, we now have a backyardigans library of movies in our house

we were in a similar situation. we had no family and I was a stay at home mom.

some friends at work had kids so, we invited their families to Chuck E Cheese for the after noon. We got a yummy cake and paid for Pizza and drinks. All together I think we spent 100.00 if not a little less and we all had a great time.

We did a cookout with a crapload of food. Everyone just kinda hung out and talked for the whole time. It was really nice. The kids that were there, I gave bubbles. We got Will an aligator that he can pull on a string. He also got a trike.

The most practical advise I can give you is to just keep it short andsimple. A couple of cute Backyardigans toys, a cake for the grown up's, and a littlecake for her. That's all you really need. At 1 year old they are too young to be able to process much more, and if you overwhelm her she will shut down, and want nothing to do with any of it. My mother once told me that the most important part of a one-year-old's birthday was getting a picture of the cake smeared face.

Do presents and cake early on, so if she wants to nap after that, the grownups can still have their party.

We just celebrated Hailey's 1st birthday.. We had a cookout at my parents house .

She got her own cake to smash..then her 6 month old cousin got to help her out a bit..

Then she opened gifts

Then she sat on the floor and played with her toys while the adults ate (she didn't want to sit in her high chair and eat..so she crawled around and mooched a bite to eat off everyone).

Gifts:
Step 2 Canopy Wagon
Step 2 Coupe Car
Little Tyles Castle Climber
Kiddie Pool ($7.00 at Dollar General)
Wooden Alphabet/number blocks
Fisher Price Plastic Shape sorter blocks/pail
Bubble Mower
Outfit
Bright Strarts musical toy
Books
Ball

Before her party.. We assembled her little tykes castle climber at home and setup her pool so she could play.

I didn't do a theme, we just did a few simple decorations. Her only "kid" guests was her 6 month old cousin, Rebekka and her foster "brother" (actually my BIL's cousin) Justin (he's 15 1/2 yrs old).

Otherwise it all adults ..

It was a simple party and by the end of the party Hailey was exhausted and ready to go home.

Thanks ladies sooo much!

I figured out im just going to have a small cookout at my MIL's (she has more room yard/house wise). It should be really nice and simple. I wont make a huge deal over it until she's a little older. But at least now i dont have to worry so much.
If anyone else has some ideas on toys, your more then welcome to tell me. Im probably going to go nuts with them so any toys your little tods love let me know!
