acid reflux?

posted 13th Jun
hey ladies i'm just wondering if anyone else here is dealing with acid reflux or anything like it. i had never experienced even heartburn until i got pregnant so it's all very new to me haha! anyway i awoke at 4 am last night and got very sick, however nearing the end of pregnancy throwing up doesn't bother me so much anymore haha! what bothered me was the INTENSE burning i felt in my throat, all i could think to do was eat ice and sit in an upright position to sleep . i was told that it was the actual acid reflux that got me sick last night which i had no idea could even happen. does anyone have any suggestions on how to help tame the pains of acid reflux?...aside from tums...i exhaust that resource haha. thanks!

I had it TERRIBLY to the point where I was waking up at night with it. Nothing worked, Tums, sleeping on two pillows, milk, etc. I called my Dr. and he prescribed me Zantac... it is WONDERFUL! No problems at all since I feel great.

for me, i drink milk. I take tums and it works for me. Ive been having the same issue lately and as wierd as it sounds drinking room temp water helped. Its horrible tho! i stack all my pillows up to sleep upright!

i have had heartburn really bad since I was about 3 months preggo. I can't chew tums or anything like that becuase it's so chalky it makes me sick. If I drink a cup of cold Milk it makes it go away. My doctor also told me that Zantac was okay to take. I haven't been trying it yet, becuase I drink out 4 or 5 cups of milk a day, and I like that she gets that much calcium! And I'm afraid that if I don't have heart burn... I'll forget to drink my Milk!

I had heartburn before I was pregnant but it has gotten SUPER bad, It makes me very sick to my stomach all day and I cant even lay down... My dr gave me a perscription for Omeprizal(sp) or and it is amazing... I dont get sick as often and if I have a little bit of heart burn during the day I can take tums and it actuallyhelps along with the perscription...

I get reflux but not the heartburn kind (just the "retasting of my lunch" aspect -gag-) I never get heartburn and have never had anything like this with the other pregnancies. It's disgusting!

I have been dealing with this same issue for the past 2 days and nights. I had been taking Tums and they did not help at all. I couldn't stand it anymore so I took a Pepcid complete and I rested wonderfully last night!! I have also heard that Zantac is good. Good luck I know how you feel.

Since 25 weeks or so it's been prety much constant. Especially at night. You can get Zantac over the counter. I get the generic from the drugstore and it works beautifully. Much better than the Tums, which I tend to eat too much of and then get constipated for it.

Sorry you are having to go through that. I have an extreme case of acid reflux, i have a reaction to anything and everything. water, milk, bread, tums....hahai hate it. I have a strong prescription for zantac, and i have had to sleep sitting almost straight upright for 9 months. Hope that the zantac works for you, cuz nothing else works for me.

Wow, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one! I wake up every night with it. It makes me throw up. I wake up with it up in my mouth   I've gotten to where I sleep with the bottle of tums beside the bed, cuz every night I wake up with it :/ I've heard all kinds of things (like the ones you've mentioned) and NOTHING works for me, except to just give in, run to the bathroom and throw up, then take a couple tums. You might find it helpful to swish some mouthwash (it helps me, since I wake up with it in my mouth :/) They also say not to eat 2 hours before bedtime, but I've even tried that, and I still woke up with it :/
