A & B are friends. A is my son.


A and B (both 4) were playing is A's room. I walk in to put C in there for a nap.. well they were both under the blankets and popped up look suspicious.. I asked what they were doing and they get all embarrased. I sat them down individually. First B (We had a talk about bad touch last month cause he was putting his hands down everyones pants). Asked what they were doing and he said "playing hide and seek". I went to ask A he said "Smelling bums". So I asked B again and told him what A said. So he went into a time out for lying after he said yes he lied.. Then I asked A if B did bad touches. He said "Yes, bum and penis". I went and asked B in timeout, he said yes he did do bad touches & said where he touched. A said he touched B too. I talked to both of them alone about what bad touches are and that if anyone ever touches their private spots that they need to scream and tell your Mommy and Daddy. I told B he can tell me too if Im watching him at the time. Im going to be freaking sick I don't know what to think or do.


Is this normal behavior for 4 year old boys? I am in shock and about to be ill. I don't know what to think. Thinking hormones are getting to me too. Am I overthinking this?

Anyways, I think they were being curious. You shouldn't leave them unsupervised anymore.
Maybe call the DR too

I think that its normal to be curious, especially at that age. You just have to reenforce that no one is supposed to touch you there(except mommy & daddy to clean and all that jazz)

I think it's normal to be curious. Tanner is 4 and is obsessed with his butt and wiener. I can totally see him and his friends examining each others goodies.

Yes, social sexual exploration is totally normal at that age.

Have you talked to B's parents about this?

I told them they are no longer allowed to play in A's room.

Yea it was. I wouldn't leave them unsupervised anymore and just keep reinforcing that you dont let people touch your butt and penis.

Yes when we had the bad touch convo a bit ago. I will again tonight.

I really like my DR, so if I was in this situation I'd call for advice and what not.

It sounds like they're curious, IMO. I wouldn't allow them unsupervised anymore and continue to tell them that it's inappropriate.

DS is 3 and is constantly playing with his penis not to mention always talking about it. He was watching DH pee a few days ago and he reached out and poked DH's penis, lol. I could only imagine what would happen if he was alone with another child who was just as curious as him.

The fact that they were under the blankets and doing this honestly concerns me more than anything. Kids that are exploring each other out of curiousity are using not hiding it.

I have a 5 year old boy and a 3 year old boy and I've never caught them doing anything like this- obviously they touch their own and do whatever they think they have to do, but they know that other people's bodies are off limits.

eta: Talking to them is great- I definitely would not punish (except for the lying, but be sure that they're clear on that.) It's definitely normal for them to explore.

I wouldn't be that worried because they are the same age.

I think bringing a lot of attention to it and putting on a lot of additional rules will change this from normal curiosity to a shameful and awful event.

Remind them that they are in charge of their own bodies and let it go
