Pretty disgustingly accurate.
Although I'd definitely expect a more comfortable bed for the elderly than a jail cot.

I work in a nursing home, it's nothing like that description. It's quite nice.

definitely accurate :-/ its sad... When I walked into a nursing home for the first time I cried and almost left the place... I cant imagine living in one or putting a loved one in one!

I completely agree.
The way we treat our elders in this society is disgusting.
We purchased our home in preparation for taking in either of our parents if needed.

I've never worked with the elderly but i do work with the disabled, and the procedures for caring for them are comparable.
They're not treated anywhere near as bad as prisoners are, even with the level of neglect/ abuse I've witnessed since joining this field.

I think that depends on where you live. Here in Massachusetts criminals have more rights than average citizens!

Not all nursing homes are bad.

I disagree. At least on the nursing homes suck part.
I used to accompany my stepmother to work most days (she used to work at a nursing home)... that place was bitchin'.
Though, I can't speak for them all, I suppose.

I have heard of sooo many cases of patient neglect when it comes to nursing homes it is insane.

Disagree. I mean, obviously I agree if that's how most places work. However, I have had grandparents, and church members in different elderly homes that I have visited. They seemed pleasant, and they were not limited to cold meals, and showers twice a week. They did have a schedule and a bed time, but I don't see that as any type of "abuse."

I do think that the elderly should have better care and living environments, but I worked at an assisted living community and it was nothing like what was described. Residents were showered whenever they wanted and needed, lights went out when they asked them to, they got lobster on their birthdays. They were very well cared for and had an amazing environment. I wish that all nursing homes could be that nice.

The old folks at the home I was at frequently ate like royalty. I was jealous, lol.

I've worked in nursing homes most of my adult life and I can say from experience no one has ever had a cold meal or was neglected in any way. They're in a nursing home for a reason, you can't give everyone a giant room or shower everyone everyday...most places dont staff for it. Also majority of nursing homes have access to everything that those prisoners have access to.
Plus, I know what jail is like.
Id rather be in a nursing home.
Yea, they give you 3 meals a day but its nothing special (Bread, Milk, some kind of meat if you're lucky, and some nasty veggie).

It happens in hospitals too. Unfortunately, the elderly are just more vulnerable than your average citizen.
