I just can't even fathom this... I don't understand...

What do you make of this? Do you feel sympathy for her? Do you think she is a disgusting waste of space?

It's actually incredibly common.

Most child molesters were molested themselves. That is why locking them up and throwing away the key isn't the only answer. Many were victims long before they were perpetrators.

It's sad actually, alot of these people need therapy to get to the root of the issue.

Very sad.

Although if she's been molested herself, I can't say I'm surprised.

Agreed

It turns into this huge cycle of abuse. :-(

This. At least this woman knows why she did it. Most don't. It's really, really sad. She needs help for sure. I hope she gets it. But, what I don't understand is why the dad saw it happen on several occasions but never did anything.

I would expect a husband/wife to snatch their child up and call the cops at first sight of this.

I would too, which is why I find it the most bizarre part of the story.

Although most perps were once victims, IMO, it doesn't excuse it.
Just because you're molested, you don't lose your reason or knowledge of what is right and wrong.
I was molested/raped near daily from the age of 4(most likely earlier than that) until I was 14.

I agree.

While I think it's sad and she definitely needs some help it's not a viable excuse to me. There is no viable excuse when it comes to abusing children, especially your own. Disgusting.

I think you brought up a good point. She should have sought out professional help as soon as those thoughts started crossing her mind.

Absolutely! I completely agree with you.

This is why I was truly believe that mental health needs to be a priority (and free if possible).

Yep.
When my step dad was caught, I immediately went in therapy. But I thought I was just fine so I quit after 6 months only to have a nervous breakdown at 17. I still go through periods where I can't function. It's a lifelong battle for most people who've been through it.
