What the heck?

posted 21st Mar
I just found out that it is 100% a sure thing that the county school system is changing. First they are going to split 2 schools in half in one area and have one school k-2 grade and the other school 3-5 grade. There are about 4 elementary schools in the county. They also will move every special Ed class in the county to those 2 half schools. Plus they will be moving the special ed classes in pre-k to the k-2 half school.

I just don't see how that is a good idea or fair to the kids.
I know from working in the schools that there is only about 10 or 11 classes in each school that are k-2. So if they move all the special needs k-2 children to one school the non special needs children will be outnumbered greatly by the special needs children. I just don't see how this is a good idea. Plus the pre-k special ed children will be isolated since the pre-k itself will be in a whole other town.

:> But it's a total of 185 schools put together. (On the bottom of one of the pages). (107 of them are elementary schools) & Our classrooms are still over crowded !

Weird to hear that someone only has a total of 6 schools where they live x:

Are they getting rid of the Pre-K ? Would be messed up if so. Regardless, it seems silly on what they are doing. Never heard of any school doing what yours is.

But also schools here ALWAYS have ESE (special needs) mixed in with the non special needs. So I honestly don't see the problem there. There are always 3-4 teachers with the students. (:.

I know the SN kids are mixed up with the NSN kids, but if every SN kid is put in one school that has just a few NSN kids then I don't think it's fair.

But I agree with you that the whole thing is silly. I don't think they're getting rid of the pre-k, but the pre-k NSN kids will be in a whole different town than the pre-k SN kids.
