Thoughts on boy names

posted 21st Mar
I was just browsing boy names and these popped out at me. Thoughts?

First or middle names:
Alaric (AL-a-rick) - Ancient Germanic, "ruler of all," name of Visigoth King that sacked Rome in the 5th century. Idgaf about the meaning, I guess it's cool, but I like the sound of Alaric. Alec, Arik, Rick, etc could be a nn.

Eamon/Éamon (AY-mon) - Irish variant of Edmund, "rich protector" BUT, Game of Thrones reference might make it mehhhhh

For middle names:
Adnan (I know a guy that pron it ad-NON but idk if there are other prons) - Arabic, means settler.

Alim (a-LEEM) Arabic, means "learned, expert, scholar"

That's all I got for now, boys names are so much harder for me. I'm a Henry/Abraham/old-timey name girl usually, but I live in the Middle East right now and I really love some of the names. Just like for girls names - I'd like to possibly have a Japanese or Hawaiian middle name (lived those places too) but I don't really like a lot of male Japanese/Hawaiian names...I dunno, just tossing ideas around.

Know any not-so-popular but not-made-up names for boys?

I like Alaric. You could use just about any Hawaiian name as they're truly unisex.

Haha, true. I know a male and female Makani, a male and female Kekoa (I actually love Kekoa) and I knew a female Keahi and there was a male news anchor named Keahi Tucker (who was a haole boy from Kauai!)

love Alaric. Think it would sound good with either of those middle names too.

I think Alaric may be rivaling Abraham as my #1 right now.

I like Abraham mostly for the nn Bram, and a friend already used Abram. I like Abraham better than Abram, anyway. I've been stuck on 'Bram' for years.

Also, I have friends that are brothers, named Deneb (DEH-neb) and Rigel (Ry-jull), which are stars. I absolutely love both of those names, however their meanings in Arabic are 'tail' and 'foot', respectively. LOL.

No worse than Kennedy, Cameron, or Jael.

I'm falling in love with it the more I say it haha. I found some more that I like! The meanings are according to Behind the Name.

Edric (ED-rick) - from Old English Eadric ~ ead "rich, blessed" and ric "ruler"

Elric (EL-ric) - Medieval form of either Old English Ælfric (elf ruler haha) or Ædelric (noble ruler - better)

And call me crazy, but I find myself loving Elmer more and more. I'd probably never use it, but it's my father's middle name and I really wish Elmer Fudd was never created, or at least named something else.

I like the sound of it, but can't get the stereotype out of my head. It comes from Ædelmær, ædel (noble) and mær (famous). Adelmar is a cognate, in Ancient Germanic (and Adelmar is a new name on my list, too haha)
