What to do

posted 21st Mar
My 4 yr old is such a messy eater. She breaks up her granola bar and crumbles it every where instead of just picking it up and eating it. She takes everything off her plate and puts it on the table. Drops half of it on the floor. I feel like she is old enough to know how to eat and I've tried everything. What would you do in this situation. Time out? I've already tried u make a mess u clean it and that dosnt seem to work

I'd make her still eat in a high chair. She may still drop some food but the rest of the mess would be contained.

hmmm idk..... my daughter's big eating issue was her eating with her hands which drove me crazy when it was stuff like spaghetti or something. I would have to sit and remind her to use her spoon, eventually she got sick of being told and she stopped using her hands.
Maybe sit with her and monitor her and stop the behavior before it starts. Tell her "ok you want to play with the food, then you're done eating, time to get down off the table" and then end the meal right there.

Quoting Colt's mommy:" I'd make her still eat in a high chair. She may still drop some food but the rest of the mess would be contained."
this might help! I did this to my daughter once since she kept making a mess and playing with her food, so I put her in her brother's high chair and she hated it!!

My son is sort of like this to..so I am no help. Like when he eats a sandwich instead of picking it up and eating it..he rips it apart and makes a mess, or when i give him a muffin he doesn't just eat it he picks it apart instead of taking bites out of the muffin and it crumbles all over..ect. It drives me crazy!   I am no help lol

My son is a very messy eater. He's 4 1/2. I make him clean up his mess when he's done. Then we're both happy. Lol.
